1. Research Purpose: This study aims to gain implications for the desirable direction of the village education community movement that is actively discussed and practiced today by exploring the Myeongdong Village and Myeongdong School, which were established, pioneered, and operated in the Chinese territory of Bukgando during the Japanese colonial period, from the perspective of the village education community. 2. Research Contents and Methods: The researcher looked into the life of Gyuam Kim Yak-yeon, a representative leader of Myeongdong School and Myeongdong Village, and explored the Myeongdong Village Education Community that he built throughout his life to understand his characteristics as a village community leader. For the research, the researcher collected various historical documents and research materials related to Kim Yak-yeon, Myeongdong School, and Myeongdong Village, and in particular, The researcher used the memoirs of those who lived in Myeongdong Village at the time as important data. 3. Conclusion and Suggestions: Myeongdong Village, as a village education community, had the characteristics of an education community, a faith community, an equal community, a caring community, and a welcoming community. Based on these features, implications were presented in four aspects for the current village education community movement.

1. 연구 목적 : 본 연구의 목적은 일제강점기 중국 땅 북간도에서 설립되고 개척되어 운영되었던 명동마을과 명동학교를 마을교육공동체의 관점에서 탐구하여 오늘날 활발하게 논의 및 실천되고 있는 마을교육공동체 운동의 바람직한 방향을 모색하는데 시사점을 얻고자 하는 데 있다. 2. 연구 내용 및 방법 : 명동학교와 명동마을의 대표적인 지도자였던 규암 김약연 선생의 생애를 살펴보고 특히 그의 마을공동체 지도자로서의 특성을 알기 위해 그가 평생을 걸쳐 이룩한 명동 마을교육공동체를 탐색하였다. 연구를 위해 김약연, 명동학교, 명동마을에 관한 다양한 사료들과 연구물들을 수집하였고, 특히 당시 명동마을에 살았던 이들의 회고록을 중요한 자료로 이용하였다. 3. 결론 및 제언 : 명동마을은 마을교육공동체로서 교육공동체, 신앙공동체, 평등공동체, 배려공동체, 환대공동체라는 특징을 가지고 있었다. 이런 점들을 기반으로 하여 현재의 마을교육공동체 운동을 위해 네 측면에서 시사점을 제시하였다.
