The purpose of this study is to reflect on actual cases of subject convergence programs based on physical education subjects, and to reveal the direction and educational meaning of subject convergence programs based on physical education. The research on practical convergence education between Korean, English, and physical education subjects conducted continuously by Lee Young-seok (2021, 2021a, 2021b, 2022, 2023) is evaluated as an experimental research case that broke the boundaries between subjects and achieved a collaboration between the three subjects. In particular, a method of chemical fusion was selected and applied to mix and teach the contents of several subjects together within the same class. First, the operation of a convergence program based on physical education has the meaning of discovering a new value of physical activity called ‘communication’. Second, it can highlight the strengths of physical education as a practice-oriented subject. Third, it is possible to strengthen the identity of physical education as a central subject in integrated education through a convergence program based on physical education. Elementary school homeroom teachers, who are free from hegemony between subjects, have high student understanding, and grasp the contents of various subjects, are the best candidates to realize the ideal of convergence education. Therefore, it is necessary to support on-site teacher training institutions such as finding best practices and retraining teachers for curriculum development and reorganization. And in order to move toward future education aimed at subject-centered subject convergence, teacher educational institutions should also strive to cultivate pre-service teachers' communication skills, multidisciplinary insights, and willingness to practice. Physical education subjects can play a pivotal role in future social integration education due to their unique characteristics of practice, plasticity, and totality, and in this regard, various communication and convergence efforts with surrounding subjects should be more actively developed.

본 연구의 목적은 체육교과에 기반한 교과융합 프로그램의 실제 사례를 반성적으로 살펴보고, 이를 통해 체육교 과에 기반한 교과융합 프로그램 운영의 방향성과 교육적 의미를 드러내 보는 것이다. 이영석 등(2021, 2021a, 2021b, 2022, 2023)이 수년간에 걸쳐 연속적으로 실시한 국어, 체육, 영어 교과 간 실천적 융합교육 연구는 교 과 간 경계를 허물고 세 교과가 융합이라는 협업을 이루어낸 실험적 연구사례로 평가된다. 특히, 동일한 차시 내 에서 여러 교과의 내용을 함께 다루는 통합의 방식을 새로이 시도하였는데, 동일한 주제를 각 교과시간에 따로 가르치는 물리적 융합의 방식을 벗어나, 단위 차시 내에서 국어, 체육, 영어 교과의 내용을 함께 섞어 가르치는 화학적 융합의 방식을 선택･적용하였다. 체육교과에 기반한 융합프로그램을 개발･적용한 협력적 실행연구는 첫 째, ‘소통’이라는 새로운 신체활동 가치의 발견이라는 의미를 갖는다. 둘째, 체육이 갖는 실천중심 교과로서의 강 점을 부각시킬 수 있다. 셋째, 체육교과에 기반한 융합프로그램을 통해 통합교육에 있어서 중추교과로서 체육의 정체성을 강화할 수 있다. 교과 간 헤게모니에서 자유롭고 학생 이해도가 높으며 여러 교과의 내용을 파악하고 있는 초등학교 담임교사는 융합교육의 이상을 실현할 최고의 적임자라 할 수 있다. 따라서 교육과정 개발 및 재 구성을 위한 우수사례 발굴 및 교사 재교육 등과 같은 현장교사 연수기관의 지원이 필요하다. 그리고 주제중심 의 교과융합을 지향하는 미래교육의 방향으로 나아가기 위하여, 예비교사의 소통능력과 다학문적인 통찰 및 실 천의지를 함양하도록 교사교육기관 또한 노력해야 한다. 체육교과는 고유의 실천성･가소성･총체성 등의 특성으 로 인하여 미래사회 통합교육에 있어서 중추적 역할을 수행할 수 있으며, 이러한 점에서 주변교과와의 다양한 소통과 융합 노력을 보다 적극적으로 전개해 나아가야 한다.
