With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the rapid development of technology, companies are facing many changes. Developed countries are making various efforts to secure technological sovereignty, and companies are investing heavily in securing R&D revenues to create sustainable competitive advantages. This study identifies 14 appropriability mechanisms(5 formal appropriability mechanisms and 9 informal appropriabilityn mechanisms) and conducts an empirical analysis of HW and SW industries. The results showed that formal appropriability mechanisms in the HW industry are patents, copy protection, and royalties in order of importance, while in the SW industry, patent copy protection and copyright protection in order of importance. In the HW industry, informal appropriability mechanisms are complementary manufacturing, superior sales and service efforts, increasing competitors' imitation costs, secrecy through long-term employment, and market first-mover advantage, while in the SW industry, superior sales and service, complementary sales and service, complementary manufacturing, secrecy, and learning curve effects are the most important. The results of this study can be used as a useful guide for practitioners to design formal and informal appropriability mechanisms. There are limitations to the generalizability of this study, as it was conducted in a specific industry, and future research should investigate various industries to provide industry-specific strategies for appropriability mechanisms.

4차산업혁명 시대가 도래하고 기술의 급속한 발전으로 인해 기업들은 많은 변화에 직면하고 있다. 선진국들은 기술 주권을 확보하기 위한 다양한 노력을 전개하고 있으며, 기업들은 지속가능한 경쟁우위를 창출하기 위한 R&D 수익확보에 많은 투자를 하고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 14개의 전유 메커니즘(공식 전유 메커니즘 5개, 비공식 전유 메커니즘 9개)을 도출하여 HW 산업과 SW 산업을 대상으로 실증분석을 수행하였다. 분석결과, HW 산업에서 공식 전유 메커니즘은 특허, 복제품 방지, 로열티 획득 순으로 중요도가 나타났으며, SW 산업에서는 특허 복제품 방지, 저작권 보호 순으로 중요도가 나타났다. HW 산업에서 비공식 전유 메커니즘은 보완적 제조, 우수한 판매 및 서비스 노력, 경쟁자의 모방 비용 증가, 장 기적 고용관계를 통한 비밀보호, 시장선점 순으로 중요도가 나타났으며, SW 산업에서는 우수한 판매 및 서비스, 보완적 판 매 및 서비스, 보완적 제조, 비밀유지, 학습곡선 효과 순으로 중요도가 나타났다. 본 연구결과는 기업의 실무자들이 공식 전유 메커니즘과 비공식 전유 메커니즘을 설계하는데 유용한 지침으로 활용 가능할 것으로 보인다. 특정 산업을 대상으로 연구를 수행하여 일반화하기에는 한계가 있으며, 향후 연구에서는 다양한 산업을 대상으로 조사하여 산업별 전유 메커니즘 전략을 제시할 필요가 있다.
