The number of victims of fraud crimes in Korea has been increasing year by year, to the point that the country has been called a “fraud republic”. In particular, non-face-to-face electronic financial fraud, such as voice phishing, smishing, and pharming, is on the rise, and financial authorities and the judiciary are taking various measures to combat it. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a financial fraud prevention system by identifying the characteristics of financial fraud victims. According to the literature review, characteristics such as demographic characteristics, socioeconomic background, and psychological background are related to the experience of financial fraud. In addition, the level of knowledge about financial fraud is also a significant factor in many studies. Therefore, this paper aims to determine whether the characteristics derived from the literature review are confirmed in the profile of financial fraud victims in Korea through the 'Survey on Electronic Financial Fraud, 2022' by KBS Public Media Research Institute. The analysis revealed differences in victimization experiences based on demographic characteristics, particularly age groups, and psychological traits. Therefore, to prevent increasingly sophisticated financial fraud crimes, it is necessary to focus on individuals with these characteristics and promote education and countermeasures to prevent victimization.

대한민국은 일명 ‘사기 공화국’이라는 말이 등장할 만큼 사기 범죄 피해자의 수가 해마다 증가하는 추세다. 특히나 보이스피싱과 스미싱, 파밍 등 비대면을 통한 전자금융사기가 기승을 부리고 있어 금융 당국과 사법부 역시 대응 방안을 범죄자 검거와 함께 다각도로 구축하고 있다. 그러나 범죄는 범죄자로 만 구성되지 않는다. 범죄학적 차원에서는 피해자 역시 범죄를 구성하는 하나의 축이다. 금융사기 범죄 피해를 예방하기 위한 단초로 금융사기 피해자들이 어떠한 특성이 있는지를 정확히 파악하는 연구가 필요하다. 문헌 검토 결과, 금융사기 피해자들에게는 공통적인 인구통계학적 특성과 사회경제적 배경, 심리적 배경과 같은 특성이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 금융사기에 대한 지식의 수준 역시 다수 연구에 서 유의미한 요인으로 나타났다. 따라서 이 논문은 ‘2022년 전자금융사기에 대한 국민인식조사’를 통해 문헌 검토를 통해 도출된 특성이 국내 금융사기 피해자들의 프로필에서 확인되는지를 목적으로 하였다. 분석 결과, 인구통계학적 특성 중 연령대와 심리적 특성에 따른 피해 경험의 차이가 있음이 확인되었다. 따라서 갈수록 고도화되는 금융사기 범죄를 예방하기 위해서는 전자금융을 빈번하게 이용하는 연령대 (청년과 중년층)를 중심으로 예방 교육이 이루어져야 할 것이며 전자금융사기 피해 경험자를 대상으로 한 심리적 지원 역시 이루어져야 할 것이다.
