This study explored the significance and implications of student guidance experiences in rural small-scale elementary-middle integrated schools, which are increasing due to declining school-age populations and the rising threat of regional extinction. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 participants, including elementary teachers, middle school teachers, and administrators at A Elementary-Middle Integrated School in Region C. A qualitative case study approach was employed to analyze the data. The findings revealed that student guidance at rural small-scale elementary-middle integrated schools encompasses five categories and 43 themes: “differences in and application of guidance standards,” “contents and practices of guidance,” “teachers’ perceptions and approaches to guidance,” “grade-specific characteristics and differentiated guidance,” “Efforts to achieve special results through joint living guidance at different school levels”. The discussion on life guidance in rural small-scale integrated elementary and middle schools led to the characteristics of life guidance experiences according to elementary school teachers, middle school teachers, and administrators. In addition, consideration of successive development stages considering the characteristics of integrated schools and the specificity of life guidance according to the characteristics of rural small-scale schools were presented. It was confirmed that the experience of life guidance in small rural integrated schools presents new possibilities based on cooperation between school levels and can play an important role as a place for students’ integrated guidance and community growth.

본 연구는 학령인구 감소와 지역소멸위기 증가로 늘어나고 있는 농촌형 소규모 초․중 통합 운영학교에서의 학생 생활지도 경험에 관한 의미와 시사점을 탐색하였다. 이를 위해 C지역 A초․중 통합운영학교의 초등교사, 중등교사, 관리자 18명을 대상으로 반 구조화된 면담을 실시하고, 질적 사례 연구를 수행하였다. 연구 결과, 농촌형 소규모 초․중 통합운영학교의 학생 생활지도는 ‘생활지도 기준의 차이와 적용’, ‘생활지도 내용 및 실천 방식’, ‘교사의 생 활지도 인식과 접근 방식’, ‘다양한 학년별 특성과 생활지도 차별화’, ‘다른 학교급의 공동 생 활지도 특수성과 협력 방안’의 5개 범주와 43개의 주제로 도출되었다. 농촌형 소규모 초․중 통합운영학교의 생활지도에 대한 논의는 초등교사, 중등교사, 관리자에 따른 생활지도 경험 의 특성을 도출하였으며, 통합운영학교의 특성을 고려한 연속적 발달단계의 고려와 농촌형 소규모 학교의 특성에 따른 생활지도의 특수성을 제시하였다. 농촌형 소규모 통합운영학교에 서의 생활지도 경험은 학교급 간 협력을 기반으로 새로운 가능성을 제시하며, 학생들의 융합 적 지도와 공동체적 성장의 장으로서 중요한 역할을 할 수 있음을 확인하였다.
