This study aimed to explore the relationships among social support, empathy, psychological capital, and career engagement in university students to comprehensively understand the critical psychological and social factors in the career preparation process. To this end, the sequential mediating effects of empathy and psychological capital on the relationship between social support and career engagement were analyzed. The results revealed significant positive correlations among social support, empathy, psychological capital, and career engagement. Furthermore, the sequential mediating effects of empathy and psychological capital in the relationship between social support and career engagement were confirmed. These findings suggest that social support plays a crucial role in providing emotional stability and enhancing psychological resources, while empathy and psychological capital significantly contribute to promoting career engagement. This study highlights the need for an integrated approach to strengthening psychological resources during the career exploration process of university students. It also confirms that educational and counseling programs aimed at enhancing social support, fostering empathy, and developing psychological capital can serve as effective intervention strategies. However, this study has limitations due to the regional bias of the sample and its cross-sectional design. Future research should employ longitudinal designs and include various individual and environmental factors through multivariate analysis to derive more generalizable and in-depth findings.

본 연구는 대학생의 사회적 지지, 공감능력, 긍정심리자본, 그리고 진로열의 간의 관계를 탐구하여 진로 준비 과정에서 중요한 심리적·사회적 요인들을 통합적으로 이해하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 사회적 지지가 진로열의에 미치는 관계에서 공감능력과 긍정심리자본의 순차적 매개효과를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 사회적 지지, 공감능력, 긍정심리자본, 진로열의 간에는 모두 유의미한 정적 상관관계가 확인되었 으며, 사회적 지지가 공감능력과 긍정심리자본을 통해 진로열의에 영향을 미치는 순차적 매개효과가 검증되었다. 이는 사회적 지지가 정서적 안정감을 제공하고 심리적 자원을 강화하며, 공감능력과 긍정 심리자본이 진로열의를 촉진하는 데 중요한 역할을 한다는 점을 시사한다. 본 연구는 대학생들의 진로 탐색 과정에서 심리적 자원을 강화하는 통합적인 접근의 필요성을 제안하며, 사회적 지지와 공감능력 을 증진시키고 긍정심리자본을 개발하는 교육 및 상담 프로그램이 효과적인 중재 방안이 될 수 있음을 확인하였다. 그러나 연구 표본의 지역적 편중성과 단면적 설계라는 한계가 존재하므로, 향후 연구에서 는 종단적 설계를 활용하고 다양한 개인적·환경적 요인을 포함한 다변량 분석을 통해 보다 일반화 가 능하고 심층적인 결과를 도출할 필요가 있다.
