This paper examines the 3rd act Bibi-Noreum in , arguing that it carries a deeper significance than simple satire or harmonious interaction with Yangban. Through a paragraph structure and dialogue analysis, this paper seeks to elucidate the implicated meaning of the Bibi-Noreum. This act can be divided into four sections, each defining the existence of Bibi and Yangban, and also their relationship. Chapter 2 presents an analysis of the meanings within each section. Initially, Bibi appears as an ambiguous, fearsome figure that comes from its unknown identity. In the first section, Bibi establishes an image as a formidable predator. And from that Bibi gets a powerful image of production. In the second section, the confrontation between Bibi and Yangban reverses their traditional positions. However, in the third section, Yangban declares himself to be an ancestor of Bibi, leading to an ambiguous intermingling of the characters‘ p rev iously e stablished traits and relationship. By this moment, they become hybrid. Chapter 3 investigates the cause and implications of this ambiguitious blending. Yangban’s lie is both serving as a strategy for his survival and simultaneously lowering him to Bibi’s class, thereby transforming his characteristics. This survival effort enables Yangban to embody Bibi’s ambiguity, and assimilate Bibi’s productive energy, ultimately granting Yangban an image of increased productive power. Similarly, Bibi, in accepting Yangban‘s statements as truth, acquires a negative perception associated with Yangban. This blending is made possible by Yangban’s lie and Bibi’s credulity, rooted in a shared taboo on kinship, particularly the rule that “kin do not eat each other.” The collusion between lie and deception forms a Yangban and Bibi’s community. Though lacking in warmth or affection, this community is meaningful in enabling their mutual coexistence, however ambiguous it may be.

본고에서는 <고성오광대>의 비비놀음이 풍자나 화합 외의 의미를 가지고 있다고 보고, 단락 구조와 대사를 분석함을 통해 비비놀음이 갖는 의미를 도출하고자 하였다. 정체를 알 수 없어 두려운 모호한 존재로 등장한 비비는, 포식자이자 부식자로서의 이미지 를 구축한다. 또한 비비와 양반이 대립하는 모습을 통해 비비와 양반의 전통적 위치를 뒤바뀜과 양반이 자신을 비비의 조상이라고 선언함으로써 두 캐릭터의 특징과 관계가 모 호하고 잡종적인 것이 된다. 양반의 거짓말은 자신을 비비의 위치로 격하하는 것이면서 자신의 생존을 꾀하는 것이기도 하다. 이 생존을 통해 양반은 비비가 가지고 있는 모호함, 비비의 소화력에서 비 롯한 생산력을 더하여 잡종적인 존재가 된다. 비비도 마찬가지로 양반의 말을 진실로 믿 으면서 양반에 대한 부정적인 관념을 입으며 잡종성을 갖는다. 이들의 이러한 섞임은 양반의 거짓말과 비비의 속음에 의해서 발생한다. 또한 거짓말과 속음은 친족 공동체에 관 한 금기, 즉 친족은 먹지 않는다는 금기를 지키고자 함이다. 거짓말과 속음의 공모로 만들어진 공동체는 다정하거나 따뜻하지 않지만, 금기를 지키고 배타적이었던 비비와 양반을 공존할 수 있는 존재로 거듭나게 한다.
