This article aims to explore the diaspora philosophy in the Buddhist writings of Monk Il-yeop (金一葉, 1896-1971) through existential dialectics. Her Zen poetry and Buddhist writings, such as Burning Youth (1962), are deeply infused with the grammar of diaspora and an existential consciousness of the “other,” along with its sublation. However, existing studies on Monk Il-yeop have mainly focused on her role as a new woman, her contributions to literature, and her relationship with Buddhism, while neglecting to explore the diaspora nature of the existential consciousness in her Buddhist literature. Her relationship with Monk Man-gong, a disciple of Monk Gyeong-heo who continued the lineage of modern Korean Zen, brought about a significant shift in her existential consciousness and writings. She established Gyeonseongam at Sudeoksa Temple as a foundation for a pure nunnery. This relationship highlights various aspects: the connection between language and existence, the practice of equal compassion, the existential conflict between the sacred and the profane, agony and transcendence, and the contrasting minds of sentient beings and bodhisattvas. These themes, along with the diasporic consciousness and the writings that try to reach the center of existence, are clearly revealed. Kierkegaard’s existential dialectics, which progress through aesthetic, ethical, and religious stages; Nietzsche’s philosophy of the Übermensch, which shows the freedom of the spirit evolving into a camel, a lion, and a child; and Camus’ philosophy of the absurd, which internalizes fate in the absurd, well explains the diasporic nature found in the Buddhist writings of Monk Il-yeop

이 글은 일엽 스님(金一葉, 1896-1971)의 불교적 글쓰기에 나타난 디아스포 라 철학을 실존 변증법을 통해 밝히고자 한다. 그의 선시와 <청춘을 불사르 고>(1962) 등의 불교적 글쓰기는 타자와 타자의 지양이라는 디아스포라의 문법 과 실존 의식을 깊이 담고 있다. 그러나 일엽 스님에 대한 기존 연구는 주로 신여성, 문학, 불교에 치중되어 있어 그의 불교 문학의 실존 의식의 디아스포라적 성격 규명에는 소홀했다. 한국 근대의 선맥을 이은 경허 스님의 제자인 만공 스 님과의 출가 인연은 그의 실존 의식과 글쓰기에 대전환을 가져왔으며, 수덕사 견성암을 청정 비구니 수도 도량의 산실로 만들었다. 언어와 존재의 관계 양상, 평등한 자비의 실천 속에서 성과 속, 번뇌와 초월, 중생심과 보살심 사이에서 고뇌하는 실존과 부조리의 의식을 견디며 존재의 중심에 이르려는 디아스포라 의식과 그 글쓰기의 특징이 잘 드러난다. 심미적 단계, 윤리적 단계, 종교적 단 계로 나아가는 키에르케고르의 실존 변증법, 낙타, 사자, 어린아이로 변모하는 정신의 자유를 나타낸 니체의 초인 철학, 그리고 부조리 속에서 운명을 내면화 하는 카뮈의 부조리 철학은 일엽 스님의 불교적 글쓰기에 나타난 디아스포라적 성격을 잘 설명해준다.
