(Purpose) This study examined the meaning of international students who participated in the Ministry of Justice's Korea Immigration and Integration Program(KIIP) Korean social understanding process. (Research methods) This study conducted in-depth interviews with 13 international students, and analyzed cases in 4 major subjects, 8 middle subjects, and 16 semantic units. (Findings) As a result of the study, it was found that international students need to standardize practical laws such as immigration law and labor law and civic curriculum. Second, it was found that communication programs such as projects with Koreans are needed so that international students can strengthen their ability to adapt and communicate with the local community. Third, it seems necessary to organize activities for international students to participate in the community as citizens such as volunteer activities and social contributions. Fourth, the Korea Immigration and Integration Program (KIIP) university linkage process is activated, and it seems that help in settling employment and career path is needed. (Conclusion and recommendations) The suggestions of this study are as follows. First, it seems necessary to add practical legal and institutional education contents to the process of understanding Korean society and standardize different civic curriculums for each institution. Second, it seems necessary to include community participation projects in the process of understanding Korean society. Third, in the process of understanding Korean society, step-by-step programs for community settlement such as civic education and volunteer activities will be needed. Fourth, it is necessary to revitalize the university-linked course in the Korean society understanding process so that international students can settle stably through job-starting. As we propose research on the curriculum for understanding Korean society in the future, we look forward to various follow-up studies.

(연구목적) 본 연구는 사회통합프로그램(KIIP) 한국사회이해 과정에 참여한 유학생의 학습경험을 통해 그 의미 를 살펴보았다. (연구방법) 본 연구는 유학생 13명을 대상으로 심층 인터뷰하고, 사례를 대주제 4개, 중주제 8개, 16개의 의미 단위로 분석하였다. (연구결과) 연구결과 유학생에게는 이민법, 노동법 같은 실제적인 법･제도 교육과정과 시민교육 과정 표준화가 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 유학생이 지역사회에 적응하고 소통할 수 있는 능력을 강화할 수 있도록 한국인 과 함께하는 프로젝트 등 소통 프로그램이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 유학생이 시민으로서 공동체에 참여할 수 있는 봉사 활동, 사회 기여 같은 활동 구성이 필요한 것으로 보인다. 넷째, 사회통합프로그램(KIIP) 대학 연계 과정이 활성화되어 취업, 진로 등 정착에 도움이 필요한 것으로 보인다. (결론 및 제언) 본 연구의 제언은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 한국사회이해 과정에 실제적인 법･제도 교육 내용을 추가하 고, 기관별 상이한 시민교육 과정 표준화가 필요할 것으로 보인다. 둘째, 한국사회이해 과정에 지역사회 참여 프 로젝트를 포함하는 것이 필요할 것으로 보인다. 셋째, 한국사회이해 과정에 시민교육, 봉사활동 등 지역사회 정 착 단계적 프로그램이 필요할 것이다. 넷째, 유학생이 취･창업을 통해 안정적으로 정착할 수 있도록 한국사회이 해 과정 대학 연계과정 활성화가 필요하다. 향후 한국사회이해 교육과정 고찰에 대한 연구를 제안하면서 다양한 후속 연구를 기대한다.
