｢Wansan Dohyeong(完山圖形)｣is estimated that has been painted in 1900 during King Gojong’s promotion of the holy land for Wansan. It is the most notable feature of this map what a memo as ‘The residential site for American(美 國人占屋處)’ on the right lower side of the mountain, and also it includes detailed numbers as ‘3 tiled and 5 thatched houses(瓦家三處 草家五處)’. Jangseogak, where it is stored, explains that it is “a pictorial map created around the castle of Jeonju in Jeolla-do and the residences of American missionaries.” This study focused on ｢Wansan Dohyeong｣from the perspective that it is an important data for confirming the historical situation and settlement history of the American Southern Presbyterian missionaries who established a Station in Jeonju. The period when the early Protestant missionaries arrived in Korea was a period of political and diplomatic turmoil in the country, and in particular, the period of preparation for the settlement of Jeonju coincided with the period before and after the Donghak Peasant Revolution. Therefore, the history of early Protestantism is not a matter of interest in fragmentary religious resources, but rather a clue to examining the process of forming modern culture through education and medical missions and the history of popular reform from a world historical perspective. In this report, the location of the early Jeonju Station pioneered by American Southern Presbyterian missionaries is marked on a modern map based on the geographical interpretation implemented in ｢Wansan Dohyeong｣. In addition, the history of the establishment of the residential space prepared at Jeonju Station and the use of the buildings for each purpose were identified and clarified through various records (reports, letters, diaries, etc.) of the missionaries. Furthermore, the results of the spatial arrangement created immediately after the relocation to Hwasan were confirmed and organized. This study is important meaning had examined the process of establish time and space from the beginning to the end of the early Protestantism’s Station on Wansan in Jeonju.

｢완산도형(完山圖形)｣은 고종의 ‘완산’ 성역화 추진과정에서 그려진 것으로 1900 년을 제작시기로 추정한다. 무엇보다 이 지도에서 가장 주목해야 할 특징은 우측 산자 락에 ‘미국인점옥처(美國人占屋處)’라는 첨지(添紙)가 있고, 초가집과 기와집을 구분 한 숫자 ‘와가삼처 초가오처(瓦家三處 草家五處)’까지 상세하게 병기하고 있다는 점이 다. 소장처인 장서각에서는 “전라도 전주의 부성과 미국인 선교사의 거주지를 중심으 로 제작된 회화식 지도”라고 설명하고 있다. 본 연구는 미국 남장로교 한국선교회 선교사들이 전주정착을 준비하던 시대적 상황과 연혁을 확인할 수 있는 중요한 자료라는 관점으로 ｢완산도형｣에 주목하였 다. 초기 개신교 선교사들이 우리나라에 도착한 시기는 국가의 정치‧외교적 혼란 기였고, 특히 전주정착을 준비하던 시기는 동학농민혁명 전후의 기간과 맞닿아 있다. 따라서 초기 개신교의 역사는 단편적인 종교자원에 대한 관심이 아니라, 서구 식 교육․의료선교를 통한 근대문화 형성과정과 민중개혁의 역사를 세계사적 시각 으로 살필 수 있는 단서가 될 것이다. 본고에서는 ｢완산도형｣에 구현된 지리적 해석을 바탕으로 초기 전주스테이션 위치를 현재 시점 지도 위에 표시하였다. 또한 전주스테이션에 마련되었던 정주공 간의 조성 연혁 및 건축물 목적별 활용사례를 선교사들의 다양한 기록(보고서, 편 지, 일기 등)에서 찾아 규명하였다. 나아가 화산(華山)으로 이전(移轉) 직후 조성한 공간배치 결과를 확인하여 정리하였다. 이로써 초기 개신교 전주스테이션 완산시 대의 시작부터 마감까지 시․공간 조성과정을 살핀 성과적 차별성을 갖게 되었다.
