This study empirically analyzes the impact of artists’ residential stability on the possession of stable creative spaces, utilizing data from the Artist Survey conducted between 2015 and 2021. The findings reveal that stable housing significantly influences the possession of stable creative spaces. In particular, the acquisition of stable residential spaces was directly associated with the acquisition of stable creative spaces, while unstable housing conditions were linked to precarious creative spaces. Furthermore, high levels of annual household income did not significantly affect the acquisition or stability of creative spaces, suggesting that the stability of creative spaces depends more on residential stability than on income levels. In addition to housing tenure, factors such as age, career length, and field of artistic activity also influenced the possession of stable creative spaces. Older artists and those with longer careers were more likely to secure stable creative spaces, as were visual artists compared to those in other fields. This study contributes to the literature by complementing prior research that treated creative spaces separately from residential spaces, offering a perspective on artists’ creative spaces as integrated live/work spaces. It empirically demonstrates the interconnections between stable housing and creative spaces. Based on these findings, the study proposes a policy framework that integrates creative space support and housing assistance into a unified live/work space model for artists, aiming to enhance their ability to secure stable environments for both living and artistic production.

이 연구는 2015~2021년 예술인 실태조사를 활용하여 예술인의 주거 지위가 안정적인 창작공간 보유에 미치는 영향을 실증 분석한 연구이다. 분석 결과, 예술인의 안정적인 주택 거주가 안정적인 창작공간 보유에 유의미한 영향 을 미침을 확인하였다. 즉, 안정적인 주거 공간의 확보는 곧 안정적인 창작공간 확보와 연결되었으며, 불안정한 주거 공간은 곧 불안정한 창작공간과 연계되었다. 또한, 높은 수준의 연 가구소득은 창작공간 확보 및 안정성에 유의미한 영향을 미치지 않았으며, 이는 창작공간의 안정성이 소득수준보단 주거 공간의 안정성에 더욱 의존함을 의미한다. 주 거 소유 형태 외에도 나이, 경력, 예술 활동 분야가 안정적인 창작공간을 보유하는 데 영향을 미쳤는데, 나이와 경력 이 많을수록, 시각예술분야 종사자일수록 안정적인 창작공간을 보유하였다. 이 연구는 창작공간을 주거 공간과 분리 하여 분석한 선행연구를 보완하여 예술인의 창작공간을 직주공간(live/work space)으로 조망하고, 안정적인 주거와 창작공간의 연계성을 실증적으로 증명하였으며, 예술인의 안정적인 창작공간 보유를 위하여 창작공간과 주거지원을 통합한 예술인 직주공간 정책 방안을 제시하였다는 데 의의가 있다.
