The Republic of Korea is the home of the world's record heritage, with 18 properties inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as of 2024. However, none of them are related to the Korean War, which constituted a pivotal event in 20th-century world history. The Korean War-related archives are of global historical significance and are enough to emphasize the importance of world peace. The objective of this study is to investigate the feasibility of requesting the inscription of records pertaining to the 1950-1953 Korean War in the custody of the Ministry of National Defense and the ROK Armed Forces. The study examines and analyzes the fundamental issues in accordance with the three primary criteria and ancillary requirements proposed by UNESCO's International Centre for Archives and Heritage. Additionally, it proposes preliminary preparations, including fostering public consensus on the subject of applying for inscription and establishing preliminary procedures for future inscription. The findings demonstrate that the three primary criteria and ancillary requirements set forth by UNESCO are fully satisfied and that the application for inscription is justified.

한국은 세계기록유산의 본고장으로 2024년 현재 유네스코 세계기록유산으로 18건을 등재하고 있다. 그러나 20세기 세계사적으로 중요한 의미를 갖는 한국전쟁 관련 기록물은 포함되어 있지 않다. 한국전쟁 관련 기록물은 세계사적으로 중요한 기록물이며, 세계평화의 중요성을 강조하기에 충분하다. 연구 목적은 국방부와 국군이 소장하고 있는 1950～1953년 한국전쟁 관련 기록물의 세계기록유산 등재 신청 가능 여부를 검토하는 것이다. 연구 내용은 유네스코 국제기록유산센터가 제시한 3대 주요 기준과 보조요건에 따라 기본적인 이슈를 검토하고 분석하는 것이다. 또한 등재신청 과제에 대한 국민적 공감대 형성은 물론 향후 등재를 위한 준비 절차 등 사전 준비사항에 대하여 제시하였다. 연구 결과 유네스코의 3대 주요 기준과 보조요건을 충분히 충족하고 있으며, 등재 신청의 정당성을 보여주고 있음을 증명하였다.
