Korea is undergoing a rapid change in its multicultural environment, and with the approaching super-aged society, the aging of immigrants is also accelerating. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the living world of the elderly migrant in Korea and to understand the meaning of their experiences. Since the existing research on migrant elders is focused on Chinese compatriots, eight more diverse migrant elderly people (China, Myanmar, Mongolia, and Germany) were selected as research participants. In-depth interviews were conducted to collect the storied experiences of each individual. Data analysis was based on Clandinin & Connelly’s (2000) three-dimensional narrative inquiry space (time, space, and interaction), and the key themes identified were “New Challenges,” “Perseverance and Reward,” “Roles and Settlement in Old Age,” and “Reflections and wishes of life”. The significance of this study lies in its contribution to a multifaceted understanding of the lives of elderly migrants and in offering specific directions for migrant elderly policy. It is hoped that further research on the increasingly diverse elderly migrant population will explore ways to foster harmonious living together.

한국의 급변하는 다문화 환경과 초고령사회의 도래 속에 이주민의 고령화도 가속화 되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 국내 이주민 노인의 생활세계를 살펴보고, 이들의 생생한 경험의 의미를 파악하고자 하는 것이다. 기존 이주민 노인 연구가 중국 동포에 치중되어 있으므로, 더욱 다양한 이주민 노인 8명(중국, 미얀마, 몽골, 독일)을 연구참 여자로 선정하였다. 심층 면담을 통해 각 개인의 이야기화 된 경험(storied experience)을 자료로 수집하였다. 자료 분석은 Clandinin & Connelly(2000)의 내러 티브 ‘3차원적 탐구 공간(시간, 공간, 상호작용)’을 토대로 이루어졌으며, 핵심 주제는 ‘새로운 도전’, ‘고통과 인내’, ‘노년의 역할과 정착’, ‘삶의 성찰과 바램’으로 도출되었다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 이주민 노인의 삶에 대한 다각적인 이해와 이주민 노인 정책의 구체적인 방향성을 제시한 점에서 의의가 있다. 더욱 다양해질 이주민 노인에 관한 후속 연구를 통해 더불어 잘 살아갈 방안을 모색해가길 기대한다.
