This paper aims to explore the conception of humanity that should be developed in the coexistence with posthumans and to propose directions of moral education to cultivate human qualities. Given the speed and trend of development of high-tech technologies that transform the human mind or body, the emergence of unfamiliar beings(i.e., posthuman) seems to be an irreversible flow. However, if a large number of unfamiliar beings appear in the future, there is a high possibility that the existing human understanding will be questioned or denied. These doubts and denials can eventually lead to skepticism about the value order and norms devoted to existing human understanding. To respond to potential conflicts between humans and posthumans, therefore, this paper would deal with three main aspects: identifying the nature of posthumans, specifying the characteristics and ethical issues of the posthuman era, and proposing common living conditions from humans to posthumans by suggesting directions for moral education that can help resolve ethical issues while preserving these conditions.

인간의 정신이나 신체를 변화시키는 첨단 기술의 발전 속도와 동향을 고려할 때 포스트휴먼의 출현은 거스를 수 없는 흐름으로 보인다. 그러나 앞으로 포스트휴먼이 대거 등장한다면 기존의 인간 이해는 그 타당성을 의심받거나 부정당하게 될 가능성이 크다. 이러한 의구심과 부정은 결국 기존의 인간 이해에 정초한 가치 질서와 규범에 대한 회의론으로 이어질 수 있다. 그렇게 되면 사회에는 도덕적 긴장과 혼란이 발생할 수 있다. 특히, 삶의 지향점이 다른 인간과 포스트휴먼 사이의 갈등이 심화될 수 있다. 이런 맥락에서 본 논문은 포스트휴먼 시대에 예상되는 갈등을 방지하기 위한 도덕교육의 방향을 제언하는 것을 목적으로 삼는다. 이를 달성하기 위해서 본 논문은 세 단계의 작업을 수행한다. 첫째, 포스트휴먼의 본질을 규명한다. 둘째, 포스트휴먼화를 촉진하거나 억제하는 동시대의 사상들이 초래하는 포스트휴먼 시대의 특징과 윤리적 문제를 구체화한다. 셋째, 인간에서 포스트휴먼에 이르기까지 통용되는 공통된 삶의 조건이 있음을 밝히고, 이러한 조건을 보존하여 윤리적문제를 해결하도록 도울 수 있는 도덕교육의 방향을 제시한다.
