This study explores the relationship between politicians' derogatory incivil remarks and their portrayal by mediatization. More specifically, it examines how such remarks as a political strategy are represented through the media. For this purpose, various data were collected. It examines the intentions behind these remarks, how they are reflected in the media, and the reactions on social media, particularly on YouTube. In other words, the study seeks to understand not only how derogatory incivil remarks are mediatizated and distributed through the media but also how they are transformed by it. To achieve this, various methods were employed to collect and analyze data, including interviews with two staff members who work closely with politicians in the National Assembly, topic analysis of news media reports on such remarks, and comment analysis on YouTube videos. The findings of the study reveal several points. First, politicians' the incivil remarks are made with the intention of benefiting themselves or their affiliated parties, keeping in mind that these remarks will be reported by the media. Notably, the frequency of such remarks among first-term and re-elected legislators suggests an intent to demonstrate loyalty to their party and achieve personal gains through media exposure, with most of these remarks taking the form of personal attacks. Second, media coverage of these remarks often focuses on the sensational and contentious aspects of inter-party conflicts, rather than on expanding political support, thereby intensifying the provocativeness of the remarks and amplifying the polarized dynamics between parties. The media tends to emphasize the sensationalism of the remarks rather than providing context or background. Third, the comments on YouTube videos related to these political conflicts often exhibit cynicism, bordering on mockery and ridicule. This playful approach by highly engaged political audiences contributes to normalizing such provocative remarks as routine political behavior, effectively creating an exclusive "league of their own" among politicians.

본 연구는 정치인의 막말이 미디어화 과정을 통해 공론장에서 소비되는 방식을 탐색하 는 연구다. 정치인 막말의 의도를 살펴보고, 해당 의도가 미디어에 반영되는 방식 그리고 유튜브로 대표되는 소셜 미디어에서의 반응을 살펴본다. 막말이 단순히 미디어를 통해 매 개되어 유통되는 것이 아니라 미디어를 통해 수용되는 과정을 알아보고자 하는 것이다. 이를 위해 연구는 다양한 방식으로 자료를 수집하여 분석하였다. 국회 현장에서 정치인과 매우 밀접하게 근무하는 실무자 2인 인터뷰, 뉴스 미디어에 보도되는 막말의 내용을 살펴 보기 위한 토픽 분석, 유튜브 동영상에 달린 댓글 분석 등 다양한 각도에서 자료를 종합 하여 막말의 미디어화를 살펴보았다. 연구 결과에 따르면 첫째, 정치인 막말은 개인 및 소속 정당의 이익을 위한 의도에서 발화되고 있었는데 그 방식이 미디어에 보도되는 점 을 염두에 두고 있었다. 특히 초선과 재선 의원들 사이에서 막말이 많은 점은 당에 충실 함을 보여주기 등 미디어를 통해 자신의 이익을 실현하고자 하는 의도를 포함하고 있었 고, 그로 인해 대부분 인신 공격적 성격을 띠는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 미디어에 보도되 는 막말은 정치적 지지 확대보다는 주로 자극적인 정당간의 정쟁으로 보도되면서 발화자 발언 내용의 자극성과 정당간의 대립 구도의 격화를 확대 재생산하였다. 막말이 나타나는 배경과 맥락에 대한 보도보다 막말 그 자체에 집중함으로써 발언의 선정성을 확대시켰다. 그런데 셋째, 정쟁과 관련된 유튜브 동영상의 댓글 반응은 비아냥과 조롱에 가까운 냉소적인 것으로 나타났는데, 이러한 정치 고관여층의 유희적 접근은 막말을 일상화된 정치 행위로 만들면서 ‘그들만의 리그’로 만드는데 기여하는 것으로 나타났다.
