Defining human beings in terms of a dualism of impulse and spirit, life and ideology, M. Scheler utilized and appropriated Marx's concept of “ideology” and Freud's concept of “sublimation” to pave the way for co-participation in the creation of God's world. In addition, M. Scheler made it a fundamental task of his philosophical anthropology to elucidate man's place in the universe. In this paper, I trace the process of M. Scheler's elucidation of the human condition as follows. First, it examines how M. Scheler uses the traditional conception of the mind, but identifies the mind in his own unique way based on its 'functionality'. Second, it elucidates M. Scheler's 'principle of spirituality' and considers how this principle guides him in anthropological problems. This paper suggests that philosophical anthropology can be used as a meta-principle for moral education.

셸러는 인간을 충동과 정신, 삶과 이념이라는 이원론에서 정의하면 서 마르크스의 ‘이데올로기’ 개념과 프로이트의 ‘승화’ 개념을 활용하고 적절하게 변용함으로써 신의 세계 창조에 함께 참여하는 길을 열게 되 었다. 또한 셸러는 우주에서 인간의 위치를 해명하는 것을 자신의 철 학적 인간학의 근본 과제로 삼았다. 이에 본 논문에서는 셸러가 인간 의 지위를 해명하는 과정을 다음과 같이 추적하였다. 첫째, 셸러가 정 신이라는 전통적 개념을 사용하면서도 정신의 ‘작용성’을 바탕으로 자 신만의 고유한 방식으로 정신을 어떻게 규명하는지 살펴보았다. 둘째, 이를 근거로 셸러가 말한 ‘정신성 원리’를 해명하고, 이 원리가 인간학 적 문제 상황을 어떻게 지도해 가는지를 고찰하였다. 이로써 우리는 철학적 인간학이 도덕교육의 메타 원리로 활용될 수 있음을 제안한다.
