The purpose of this study is to find out teachers' perceptions of rhythmic gymnastics classes in the expression area of elementary schools and to suggest improvement measures. In total, 100 elementary school teachers were surveyed. Three of them were selected and in-depth interviews were conducted. The data were analyzed according to the inductive content analysis procedure, and the reliability of the data was secured through the triangular verification method. In result, elementary school teachers were positively aware with the educational effects of rhythmic gymnastics activities. However, they were not confident with the rhythmic gymnastics class and had difficulties in running the class. The reasons were due to a lack of understanding and expertise in rhythmic gymnastics, as well as limited teaching and learning materials in comparison with general physical education subjects. To improve rhythmic gymnastics classes of elementary school, developing and disseminating teaching and learning materials, utilizing experts, and improving the classroom environment were suggested. Further studies are warranted to develop educational methods.

본 연구는 초등학교 표현 영역 중 리듬체조 수업에 대한 교사들의 인식 확인 및 개선방안을 모색하는데 목적이 있다. 연구를 위해 초등학교 교사 100명을 모집하였고, 이 중 3명을 선별하여 심층 면담을 진행하였다. 수집된 자료는 귀납적 내용분석 절차에 따라 분석하였고 삼각검증법을 통해 자료의 신뢰성을 확보하였다. 연구 결과, 초 등교사들은 리듬체조의 교육적 효과에 대해 긍정적으로 인식하고 있었다. 반면 대부분의 교사들은 리듬체조 종 목에 대한 전문성 부족으로 수업 운영에 어려움을 겪고 있었다. 이러한 원인으로 리듬체조 종목에 대한 이해와 전문성 부족, 타 체육 영역에 비해 교수학습 자료의 부족으로 파악되었다. 개선방안으로는 초등교사와 예비초등 교사의 전문성 강화, 교수학습 자료의 개발, 외부전문가 활용과 수업 환경 개선이 제시되었다. 본 연구 결과를 통해 초등교사들의 수업 유능감 향상과 리듬체조 수업을 위한 가치 극대화의 필요성을 확인할 수 있었다. 향후 연구는 리듬체조 수업을 진행하는 초등교사들의 전문성 함양과 교수법을 위한 구체적인 방법론 개발이 수행되어야 할 것이다.
