The rapid progress of globalization has highlighted the need for citizens around the world to work together to solve global problems, and global citizenship education is becoming an essential part of education. The objective of this study is to assess the efficacy of liberal education courses that address global citizenship and to provide a foundation for the future administration of such courses. Pre- and post-surveys were conducted on 128 students enrolled in six liberal education courses who volunteered to participate in the study. The global citizenship instrument developed by Yoon (2017) was utilized to assess six dimensions of global citizenship: knowledge, analytical skills, social skills, attitudes, empathetic practice, and compassionate practice. The structured questionnaire included questions on global citizenship, as well as gender, grade, major fields, subjects, overseas stay experience, experience of global citizenship, and experience in participating in global citizenship-related activities. Paired t-tests were employed to ascertain changes in global citizenship, while independent samples t-tests and one-way analysis of variance were used to identify differences in global citizenship according to the general characteristics of the participants. The results of the study showed that all sub-scores of global citizenship improved after the course compared to before the course. In particular, scores in the areas of analytical skills and willingness to practice justice improved significantly. When analyzing the changes in global citizenship by the characteristics of the participants, we observed significant differences in the changes in the scores of the global citizenship subscales by gender. Female students demonstrated higher levels of global citizenship skills, empathetic practices, and compassionate practice in comparison to male students. By major, there were changes in most sub-scales of global citizenship, but not statistically significant. In the future, it is necessary to specifically identify the factors that affect global citizenship and conduct intervention studies on global citizenship for university students.

세계화의 급속한 진행은 글로벌 문제를 해결하기 위한 전 세계 시민들이 상호협력할 필요성을 부각시키고 있으며, 세계시민교육은 필수적인 교육으로 자리매김하고 있다. 이 연구의 목적은 세계시민성을 다루는 교양과목의 효과를 평가하여 향후 세계시민교육 관련 교양과목 운영에 활용할 수 있는 기초자료를 제공하는 것이다. 연구 참여에 자발적 으로 동의한 6개 교양과목 수강생 128명을 대상으로 하였다. 세계시민성은 윤성혜(2017) 가 개발한 도구를 활용하였고, 지식, 분석적 스킬, 사회적 스킬, 태도, 공감적 실천의지, 공의적 실천의지의 여섯 가지 측면을 평가하였다. 구조화된 설문지에는 세계시민성과 함께 성별, 학년, 전공, 수강교과목, 해외체류 경험, 세계시민교육 경험, 세계시민 관련 활 동 경험 문항이 포함되었다. 세계시민성 변화를 파악하기 위해 짝지은 t검정을, 연구참여 자의 일반적 특성에 따른 세계시민성 변화의 차이를 파악하기 위해 독립표본 t검정과 일 원분산분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 수강 전에 비해 수강 후에 세계시민성의 모든 하위 영역의 점수가 향상되었다. 특히 분석적 스킬과 공의적 실천의지 영역에서 점수가 크게 향상되었다. 연구참여자의 특성별 세계시민성 변화를 분석할 결과, 성별에 따른 세계시 민성 하위영역별 점수 변화에 유의한 차이를 관찰하였다. 즉, 여학생이 남학생에 비해 지 식, 분석적 스킬, 공감적 실천의지, 공의적 실천의지 영역에서 통계적으로 유의한 점수 변화가 있었다. 전공에 따라서는 세계시민성의 대부분 하위영역에서 변화가 있었으나 통계적인 유의성은 없었다. 마지막으로 이 연구가 세계시민성 함양을 위한 교양수업의 방향성을 제시하기 위한 기초자료를 제시하고 있다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 향후 대규모 개입연구를 통해 세계시민성에 영향을 미치는 요인을 구체적으로 파악하고, 대학생들 의 세계시민성을 강화할 수 있는 교양수업의 발전 방안을 모색하는 것이 필요할 것이다.
