This paper is based on the fact that there are few foreigners who have learned about the developed Korea through textbooks, and under the proposition that the image of a developed Korea should be made known by including it in overseas textbooks, what kind of Korea-related content is currently included in overseas textbooks, and based on this, We are seeking ways to include Korea-related content in overseas textbooks. In particular, this paper seeks to examine Korea-related content included in Chinese elementary, middle, and high school textbooks at a time when Korea, China, and Japan are each showing a sensitive response to the content included in their own textbooks. At the same time, we want to explore various ways to properly include 21st century Korea in Chinese textbooks. Through this, we hope to help ensure that textbooks contain fair and objective content as intended. The characteristics found in Korea-related content in Chinese textbooks are as follows. First, textbooks containing Korea-related content are very limited and the content is not much. Among Chinese textbooks, the only ones that contain a lot of Korea-related content are history textbooks and geography textbooks. Second, most of the content related to Korea in Chinese textbooks contains more of the past than of the present. Even excluding the uniqueness of being a history textbook, even in the modern history section, there is no trace of Korea’s development or the K culture spreading globally. Third, considering that textbooks are compiled from the country’s perspective, Chinese textbooks, especially history textbooks, contain Chinese ideology based on ethnocentrism and emphasize China’s love of peace. Although this kind of textbook compilation centered on ethnography may distort the facts or cause misunderstanding, it is currently being widely implemented in China under the Chinese government’s educational guidelines called patriotic education. Fourth, there is almost no Korea-related content in Chinese elementary school textbooks. This is partly because they do not want to describe foreign cultures too much in order to sufficiently educate young students about their own culture, but also because when they mention the cultures of neighboring countries, they are limited to descriptions related to Japan. In order to correct errors in Korea-related content in these textbooks and include Korean development, the following efforts must be made. First, the most important thing is that the government must establish various promotional projects to improve the national image and continuously promote them in various ways. Second, it is a plan to create objective textbooks for each other through a joint history textbook between Korea, China, and Japan. Third, what can overcome the government’s limitations is improving Korea’s image through informal private diplomacy.

본 논문은 한국, 중국, 일본이 자국 교과서 내용에 대해 각각 민감한 반응을 보이 고 있는 상황에서 중국 초·중·고교 교과서에 수록된 한국 관련 내용을 살펴보 고, 이를 바탕으로 중국 교과서에 한국 관련 내용을 제대로 담을 수 있는 다양한 방법을 모색하고자 하였다. 중국 교과서의 한국 관련 내용에서 발견되는 특징은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 한국 관 련 내용을 담고 있는 교과서가 매우 제한적이고 내용도 많지 않았다. 둘째, 중국 교과서의 한국 관련 내용은 대부분 현재보다 과거의 내용이 더 많이 포함되어 있 었다. 한국의 발전상 및 전세계적으로 유행인 K문화를 소개하는 내용은 찾아볼 수 없었다. 셋째, 교과서가 국가적 관점에서 통일된 내용을 교육하고 있다는 사실 이다. 특히 역사 교과서는 민족중심주의에 기초한 중화사상을 담고 있다. 이를 바 탕으로 현재 중국에서는 애국주의 교육을 실시하고 있다. 본 교과서에 포함된 한국 관련 내용의 오류를 바로잡고 한국의 발전상을 중국 교 과서에 수록하기 위해서는 다음과 같은 노력이 필요하다. 첫째, 가장 중요한 것은 정부가 국가이미지 제고를 위한 다양한 홍보사업을 수립하고 이를 여러 경로로 지 속적으로 추진해야 한다. 둘째, 한·중·일 공동 역사교과서를 통해 서로에게 객 관적인 교과서를 만들어야 한다. 셋째, 정부의 한계를 극복할 수 있는 것은 비공식 민간외교를 통한 한국 관련 내용의 수록이다. 넷째, 교과서 관련 종사자들과 지속 적인 협의와 회의를 진행해야 한다.
