From the perspective of the story of migration, I reviewed the aspects and meanings of Korean mythology as a whole. The current status of the data, aspects of the migration narrative, and meaning of the migration narrative are summarized as follows. First, there have been many cases of migration in Korean mythology. In some cases, the entire story is a migration narrative; in others, only part of the story is a migration narrative. Among the myths that explained the origin of the world were and , and among the myths that explained the origin of humans were and . Further, among the myths that explained the origin of the culture were , , , , , , and . Among the founding myths that explained the origin of the country were , , , , , , , , and . Second, Korean mythology described four types of migration. It is 1) migration between Heaven and Earth, 2) migration between different lands and lands, 3) migration across the sea to land, and 4) migration between the world and the netherworld. 1) During the migration between Heaven and Earth, there were stories of migration from Earth to Heaven and from Heaven to Earth. Deities that migrated from Heaven to Earth included Hwanwoong, Haemosu, Park-Hyeokgeose, King Kim-Suro, King Cheonji, and Mundoryeong, and those that migrated from Earth to Heaven included King Cheonji, King Daebyeol, King Sobyeol, Hwangwooyang, and Jacheongbi. 2) There were stories of deities migrating between different lands, including Danggeumaegi and her three sons, Gameunjang-agi, Dangun, Jumong, Yuri, Biryu, and Onjo. 3) The deities that migrated across the sea to land were brother and sister, Namu Doryeong, Princess Bari, the daughter of the Dragon King of the East Sea (Samseunghalmangbonpuri), Baekjutto and Gwenegitto, Baramun, Seoktalhae, Heo Hwang-ok, three maidens (Samseong myth), Yeonorang, and Seonyeo. 4) The deities that migrated between this world and the netherworld included Sakyamuni, Maitreya, Daebyeolwang, Sobyeolwang, Wongang Doryeong, Wongangami, Hallakgungi, Princess Bari, Jacheongbi, and Gangrimdoryeong. Third, the meaning of migration in Korean mythology is as follows. 1) This creates a new mythical order in which indigenous and migrant forces compete or unite. The story of indigenous forces (indigenous people) and migrant forces (migrants) competing and harmonizing to create a new order is the general narrative grammar of Korean migration myths. 2) There is a certain orientation toward migration. Earth is more important than Heaven, and Haedong Joseon’s land is more important as a sacred and precious space.Haedong Joseon is more important than the other sides of the sea and tends to value this world over the netherworld. 3) The order of relations between migrants and indigenous people mainly appears as a top-down or equal relationship. 4) As subjects of migration, the relationship between humans and gods is friendly. Therefore, they actively migrate and negotiate. Gods like to help and care for humans and they value such things. Subsequently, the work of organizing the worldview and spatial view of mythology and constructing a spatial map must be conducted in depth.
