- This study aims to examine the effects of Animal-Assisted Therapy on the emotions of elderly people with mild cognitive impairment. The subjects of the study were 20 elderly people diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment at two elderly daycare centers in City I. Ten elderly people (6 women, 4 men) were selected as the experimental group, and ten elderly people (7 women, 3 men) were selected as the control group, and it was confirmed that the two groups were homogeneous. The experimental group was administered the animal-assisted therapy program twice a week for 60 minutes per session for a total of 12 sessions. In order to compare the emotions (depression, quality of life, brain function index) of the experimental and control groups before and after the test, the Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-ranks test was performed and the results were derived. The results showed that the experimental group had a significant difference (Z=-2.11, p<.05) due to decreased depression, and that there was a significant difference (Z=-3.72, p<.001) due to improved quality of life. In addition, the brain function index also showed a significant difference (Z=-2.44, p<.05), as the attention index (Z=-2.09, p<.05) and the emotion index improved. Communication and interaction with animals suggest therapeutic value by promoting emotional and brain function improvement.

- 본 연구는 동물매개치료가 경도인지장애 노인의 정서에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 살펴보고자 한다. 연구의 대상은 I시 노인데이케어센터 2곳의 경도인지장애로 진단받은 노인 총 20명이다. 노인 10명(여 6, 남 4)을 실험집 단, 노인 10명(여 7, 남 3)을 통제집단으로 선정하고 두 집단이 동질 집단임을 확인하였다. 실험집단에게 동물매개 치료 프로그램을 회기당 60분, 주 2회씩, 총 12회기를 실시하였다. 실험집단과 통제집단 정서(우울, 삶의 질, 뇌기능 지수)의 각 집단 내 사전과 사후 비교를 위하여 윌콕슨 부호 순위 검정(Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-ranks test)을 실시하고 결과를 도출하였다. 그 결과 실험집단은 우울이 감소하여 유의한 차이(Z=-2.11, p<.05)가 있는 것으로 나타났고, 삶의 질이 향상되어 유의한 차이(Z=-3.72, p<.001)가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 뇌기능 지수 에서도 주의 지수(Z=-2.09, p<.05), 정서 지수가 향상되어 유의한 차이(Z=-2.44, p<.05)가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 동물과의 교감 및 상호작용은 정서와 뇌기능 향상을 촉진함으로써 치료적 가치를 시사하고 있다.
