In this study, we examined the effectiveness of a peer relationship promotion program using picture books by developing and applying a program to foster peer relationships and social and emotional competencies in elementary school students. To achieve this purpose, based on the importance of ‘understanding’, the entire program was composed of ‘self-understanding’, ‘understanding others’, and ‘understanding relationships’. The peer relationships test and social-emotional competency test were used for the test of the experimental effect. The results of this study are as follows. As a result of statistical verification, peer relationships and social and emotional competencies did not show statistically significant differences between the experimental group and the control group through independent sample t-test, but there was a statistically significant change as a result of paired-sample t-test between pre- and post-test in the experimental group. It was concluded that after applying the program, the program increased in both peer relationships and social and emotional competencies. As a result of analyzing the students' comments on their activities, we were able to find many answers from students who achieved the goals of each session of the program and cultivated elements of social and emotional competency. The implications of this study was discussed.

이 연구에서는 그림책을 활용한 또래 관계 증진 프로그램이 초등학생의 교우관계와 사회․ 정서 역량 함양을 위한 프로그램을 개발ㆍ적용하여 그 효과에 대해 살펴보았다. ‘이해’의 중 요성을 바탕으로 프로그램 전체를 ‘자기 이해’, ‘타인 이해’, ‘관계 이해’로 구성하였으며, 선행연구를 참고하여 8개의 주제를 설정한 뒤 주제에 적합한 그림책을 선정하여 수업안을 재 구성하였다. 프로그램의 효과를 검증하기 위해, C도 소재 초등학교의 3학년 학생 57명(실험 21명, 통제 36명)을 대상으로 교우관계 척도, 사회정서역량 척도를 사용하였다. 주 1-2회로 총 10차기의 그림책을 활용한 또래 관계 증진 프로그램을 실시하였다. 사후검사 점수에 대해 독 립표본 t 검증 결과 통계적으로 의미 있는 차이를 보이지 않았으나, 실험집단의 사전-사후 간 대응 표본 t 검증 결과 통계적으로 유의미한 변화를 나타냈다. 학생들의 활동 소감문을 분석 한 결과, 프로그램 각 차시 목표 달성과 사회․정서 역량의 요소(자기 인식, 자기관리, 사회 적 인식, 관계 관리, 책임 있는 의사 결정)를 함양한 학생들의 답변을 다수 찾을 수 있었다. 이 연구는 학급 전체 학생을 대상으로 하여 실제 학급에서 운영하는 교육과정을 재구성하여 특정 교과에 치우치지 않고 학생들이 즐기면서 또래 관계 증진을 향상할 수 있는 프로그램 을 실시하여 그 효과를 평가한 실행연구라는 점에 의의가 있다.
