The aim of this study is to examine the philosophy, direction, and specific programs of therapeutic communities(TCs) operating within correctional facilities. These communities strive to transform correctional institutions into TCs, aiming to decrease recidivism rates and enhance recovery from addiction through rehabilitation among drug addicts. Nine recovering drug addicts with prior participation in the therapeutic program of correctional facilities were recruited as participants for this study. Data collection was conducted through one-on-one, in-depth interviews with the participants and analyzed using a case study approach. The research findings are as follows. First, in the area of drug abstinence self-efficacy, efforts to overcome cravings, learning stress coping strategies, and assessing mental health levels were observed. Second, in the area of vocational training, career guidance and self-efficacy, high-value-added vocational training, social integration models, and professional vocational coaches were noted. Third, in the area of social adaptation, new organization of personal support networks, healthy romantic relationships, and interpersonal skills were observed. Fourth, in the spiritual area, religious humanity, humility towards the world and people as ethical beings, and a rebirth as responsible individuals were noted. Based on the research findings, discussions were held on the philosophy and direction of correctional TCs, focusing on the place to change to ethical subject, the place to heal past wounds, perception change from offender or patient to person having right to rehabilitate and pursue happiness, and resocialization through social technology training.

본 연구는 교정시설 내를 치료 공동체로 재구조화하여 마약류 중독자들의 재활을 통해 재범률을 낮추고 중독에서 회복을 증진하고자 하는 교정시설 내 치료 공동체의 철학과 방향 그 리고 구체적 프로그램을 모색하고자 하였다. 연구참여자로는 교정시설에서 치료 프로그램에 참여 경험이 있는 9명의 마약류 중독 회복자들이 참여하였다. 수집자료는 연구참여자들과 1 대1 심층 면담을 수행하여 구성하였고 사례 연구 방법으로 분석했다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 단약효능감 영역에서 갈망 극복의 힘 배양, 스트레스 회피 전략 학습, 정신건강 수 준의 재고가 나타났다. 둘째, 직업 훈련 영역에서는 진로지도와 효능감, 고부가가치 직업 훈 련, 사회 연계 모델, 전문적 직업 코치가 나타났다. 셋째, 사회 적응력 영역에서는 새로운 인 적 지지망 구성, 이성과의 건강한 관계, 대인관계 기술이 나타났다. 넷째, 영성 영역에서는 종교적 인간, 윤리적 존재의 세상과 사람에 대한 겸손함, 책임지는 주체로서의 재탄생이 나 타났다. 연구 결과에 근거하여 교정시설 치료공동체의 철학과 방향은 윤리적 주체로 재탄생 하기 위한 전환의 장, 과거 상처를 치유할 수 있는 회복의장, 범죄자나 환자가 아닌 재활할 권리와 행복추구권을 지닌 권리자라는 인식의 전환, 사회기술 훈련 등을 통한 재사회화에 대해 논의하였다.
