This paper examines the modern transformation of the musical “Here, Piwhadang” based on the classic novel “Pakssijeon,” and explores its implications for classical literature content. Chapter 2 analyzes the transformation of “Here, Piwhadang” across three dimensions: storytelling methods, character and event imagery, and reinterpretation of spatial backgrounds. In terms of storytelling methods, “Here, Piwhadang” portrays the process of character’s crafting and engaging with the narratives within the play. In terms of character and event imagery, it focuses not on diminishing the character’s uniqueness or the allure of the events, but highlighting the traumas of the returning woman and the harsh realities of their lives. Lastly, “Here, Piwhadang” explores how three women find agency within the narrative world, constructing a fictional space through their narratives and writing, distinct from Piwhadang. Chapter 3 proposed three approaches for adapting classical literature content, as observed in “Here, Piwhadang.” Firstly, it emphasizes filling narrative gaps through active imagination, leveraging the unknown aspects of classical literature s fertile ground where meanings and connections can flourish Secondly, it advocates for diverse storytelling methods that consider both the original medium and the language of the new medium. Thirdly, it stresses the importance of aligning with contemporary desires. This involves connecting classical narratives not just with historical enjoyment but also with the interests and desires of today’s audiences and communities. Classical literature content evolves through dialogue with contemporary audience desires reflecting unconscious longings for resolution and the challenging of entrenched discourses.. Therefore, creating classical literature content necessitates experimentation and innovation, addressing contemporary desires to resolve conflicts and explore alternatives.

이 논문은 뮤지컬 <여기, 피화당>이 고전소설 <박씨전>을 현대적으로 변용한 양상을 살펴보고, 이를 바탕으로 고전문학콘텐츠의 방향을 논의하였다. Ⅱ장에서 는 <여기, 피화당>이 <박씨전>을 수용하고 변용한 양상을 스토리텔링 방식, 인물 과 사건 형상화, 공간 배경의 의미에 대한 재해석이라는 세 가지 측면으로 나눠서 살펴보았다. 스토리텔링 방식 측면에서 <여기, 피화당>은 극중극을 통해 전체극 인물이 글을 쓰면서 내부극 인물의 서사와 교접하는 과정을 보여주었다. 인물과 사건 형상화 측면에서는 인물의 신이성과 사건의 환상성을 약화하는 대신 청나라 로 끌려갔다가 속환된 여성의 상처와 현실의 비극적 삶에 주목하였다. 마지막으로 <여기, 피화당>은 물리적 공간인 피화당이 아닌 글쓰기와 글쓰기를 통해 구축된 허구 공간인 서사세계에서 세 여성이 삶을 살아갈 수 있는 힘을 발견하였다. Ⅲ장에서는 <여기, 피화당>의 사례를 통해 발견한 고전문학콘텐츠화의 방안을 세 가지 제시하였다. 첫째, 작자 미상인 고전문학 향유층에 대한 적극적인 상상을 통해 서사적 채워넣기가 필요하다. 작자 미상은 고전문학콘텐츠화에서 텅 빈 기표 이자 공백으로 작용하며 다른 서사와의 접속을 통해 기의와 내용이 채워지는 과정 을 가능하게 하였다. 둘째, 원전의 매체와 변환되는 매체의 언어를 고려한 다양한 스토리텔링 방식에 대한 고민이 필요하다. 셋째, 동시대 향유층의 욕망과 교감하는 시도가 필요하다. 동시대 향유층의 관심과 욕망과 접점 지점을 찾아 고전문학이 특정 시기에만 향유되던 서사가 아니라 오늘날 향유층의 이야기, 우리 주변의 이 야기로도 치환될 수 있도록 해야 한다. 고전문학콘텐츠는 동시대 향유층의 욕망과 교감한 산물이면서 동시대 향유층의 무의식적 욕망을 읽어낼 수 있는 척도이다. 그렇기에 향유층이 갈등을 봉합하고자 하는 욕망, 대안을 상상하기 힘든 담론적 고착 상황이 반영되기도 한다. 그러므로 고전문학콘텐츠를 창작하는 과정에서 동시대 향유층의 욕망과 교감하면서도 갈등 을 봉합하고 안주하고자 하는 욕망을 선회할 수 있는 실험과 도전이 요구된다.
