This study aims to reconstruct the identity of individuals crossing the boundaries between immigrants and natives by linking Darwin’s concept of ‘species’ with Whitehead’s notion of ‘extended continuum.’ In the media, discourse related to illegality directed towards immigrants leads audiences to naturally associate anonymous immigrants with acts of illegality merely based on terms like immigrants, migrant workers, marriage migrants, repatriates, refugees, etc. They are often regarded recklessly, stereotyped as different from us, looked down upon, and engender feelings of hatred. Consequently, this research critically examines the relationship between naming and emotions towards immigrants from various backgrounds and explores the reasons for the impossibility of empathy, coexistence, and proper hospitality towards immigrant-background citizens with equal dignity and freedom in multicultural societies. Subsequently, it analyzes Darwin’s concept of ‘species’ to reflect on the understanding of humanity and explicates Whitehead’s notion of ‘extended continuum’ to specify the mode of human existence. Finally, at the intersection of Darwin’s concept of ‘species’ and Whitehead’s notion of ‘extended continuum,’ this study reconceptualizes the identity of immigrants and natives as ‘Pan narratives.’ The application of Darwin’s concept of ‘species’ and Whitehead’s notion of ‘extended continuum’ to the analysis of the relationship between immigrants and natives is valuable as interdisciplinary research that connects biological and philosophical concepts to social phenomena.

본 연구는 다윈의 ‘종’ 개념과 화이트헤드의 ‘연장적 연속체’ 개념을 연결하여 이주민과 선주민의 경계를 횡단하는 인간의 정체성을 재구성하려는 데 목적이 있다. 언론에서 이주민을 향해 불법과 관련한 발화행위는 청자에게 이주민, 이주노동 자, 결혼 이주자, 귀환동포, 난민, 등으로 들리는 이민자의 이름만으로도 익명의 이주민들을 불법을 저지르는 자로 당연시하게 된다. 일상에서 마주치는 그들을 향해서 함부로 해도 될 것처럼 여긴다든지 우리와 다른 사람으로 치부하고, 우리 보다 낮게 보고, 혐오의 감정이 작동한다. 이에 본 연구는 다양한 층위의 이주민을 부르는 호명담론과 정체성의 관계를 비판적으로 고찰한다. 이어서 다윈의 ‘종’의 개념을 분석하여 인간에 대한 이해를 다시 성찰하고, 화이트헤드의 ‘연장적 연속 체’개념을 분석하여 인간의 존재 양식을 명시화한다. 마지막으로 다윈의 ‘종’의 개 념과 화이트헤드의 ‘연장적 연속체’ 개념의 접점에서 이주민과 선주민의 정체성을 ‘판 내러티쿠스’로 재구성한다. 이 시도는 생물학적 및 철학적 개념을 사회적 현상 에 연결하는 학제 간 연구로서 시사점이 있다.
