This paper analyzes the ecological philosophy depicted in Hayao Miyazaki's "Princess Mononoke." According to Miyazaki, humans must separate themselves from nature for their self-realization, yet they must also reconcile with nature for a fulfilling self-realization. In the first place, this paper aims to support this interpretation through character analysis in the film. Ashitaka loves nature, and his love for nature extends to love for humanity. Princess Mononoke represents ancient humans who still perceive nature in ways no longer visible to those reliant on science and technology, yet she suffers from her hatred towards humans. lady Eboshi symbolizes humanity that has gained the power of science and civilization through separation from nature. Miyazaki illustrates Ashitaka's growth among these characters, through his encounters with the Deer God. The Deer God, as the cosmic priest, oversees the operation of the universe and repeats by ritual the creation of the universe. Through the Deer God, Ashitaka deeply feels the creativity of life and realizes his mission to reconcile nature and humanity.

본 논문은 미야자키 하야오의 <원령공주>에 등장하는 생태철학을 분석한다. 미야자키에게 인간은 자기실현을 위해 자연으로부터 자신을 분리해야 하지만, 또한 충만한 자기실현을 위해 자연과 화해해야 하는 존재이다. 이러한 점을 본 논문은 우선 영화의 인물 분석을 통해서 보이고자 한다. 아시타카는 자연을 사랑하고 그러한 사랑이 인간에 대한 사랑으로 이어지는 인물이다. 모노노케히메는 과학기술로 인간이 더 이상 볼 수 없게 된 자연의 모습을 여전히 보는 태고의 인간이다. 그렇지만 그녀는 인간에 대한 증오로 괴로워한다. 에보시 고메 는 자연과의 분리를 단행하고 과학과 문명의 힘을 얻은 인간을 대변한다. 하야오 는 이러한 인물들 사이에서 아시타카와 사슴 신의 만남을 통해 아시타카의 성장을 그린다. 사슴 신은 우주적 제사장으로서의 우주의 운행을 관장하며, 우주의 창조 를 의례 안에서 반복한다. 아시타카는 사슴 신을 통해 생명의 창조성을 깊이 느끼고, 자연과 인간을 화해시켜야 한다는 자신의 사명을 깨닫는다.
