This thesis critically examines the characterization of human rights discourse as a form of secular religion, highlighting its implications and limitations from a Christian perspective. Human rights have become central to global governance, societal norms, and international law, profoundly influencing international relations and domestic policies. Despite their widespread acceptance, the uncritical embrace of human rights as a universal framework raises significant concerns. This paper argues that human rights discourse mirrors religious belief systems in its dogmatic nature, leading to uncritical acceptance and the marginalization of alternative perspectives. By recognizing the religious-like characteristics of human rights discourse, we can foster more nuanced and critical engagement with its principles. The thesis proposes that integrating Christian theological insights, which emphasize community, relational values, and divine law, can offer a more balanced and contextually appropriate framework for understanding and applying human rights.

본 논문은 세속 종교의 한 형태로서 인권 담론의 특징을 비판적으로 검토하고 기독교적 관점에서 그 함의와 한계를 탐색한다. 최근 인권담 론은 국제사회의 규범, 거버넌스, 문화의 중심이 되어 국제정치와 국내 정책에 큰 영향을 미치고 있다. 인권을 전지구적인 보편적 담론으로서 무비판적으로 수용하는 최근의 경향은 심각한 문제를 야기할 수 있다. 본 연구는 인권 담론이 도그마적 성격의 종교적 신념 체계와 유사하며, 이로 인해 담론에 대한 무비판적 수용과 대안적 관점의 억압을 초래할 수 있음을 논증한다. 따라서 인권 담론의 세속 종교적 특성을 인식함으 로써 이에 대한 보다 비판적인 검토와 접근이 요구된다. 본 연구는 공동체, 관계적 가치, 신법을 강조하는 기독교 신학적 통찰을 통합하 여, 인권 담론을 이해하고 실천하는 데 있어 보다 균형 잡히고 상황에 적합한 틀이 마련되어야 할 필요가 있음을 제안한다.
