The Bible emphasizes the dignity of disabled people as God’s image, Jesus’ teachings on devotion and mercy, social justice and consideration, healing and restoration through God’s will, and the responsibility of family and community. However, Korean society’s view of the National Disability Discrimination Elimination Coalition, which protests on the subway during rush hour, advocating for the right to mobility for the disabled, is not positive. This is not different in the Korean Christian community. The Korean Christian community needs a theology of disability that goes beyond viewing people with disability as objects of mercy and evangelism and reflects on disability itself. Practicing Christian social welfare for persons with disabilities involves adapting to changes in the disability paradigm. Conceptualizing disability can be broadly categorized into medical models and various contrasting models. The disability paradigm has shifted from a medical model that focuses only on individual disabilities to a social model that considers broader social and environmental factors. By embracing the principles of the ICF model, anti-oppressive practices, and Christian values of love, compassion, and justice, Christian social welfare can be a powerful force for positive change, promoting full human inclusion, dignity, and well-being.

성경은 장애와 장애인에 관하여 하나님의 이미지로서의 존엄성, 헌 신과 자비에 대한 예수의 가르침, 사회적 정의와 배려, 하나님의 뜻을 통한 치유와 회복, 그리고 가족과 공동체의 책임을 강조한다. 그러나 장애인 이동권을 주장하며 출근 시간 지하철에서 시위하는 전국장애인 차별철폐연대를 바라보는 한국 사회의 시선은 곱지만은 않다. 이는 한국 기독교 커뮤니티도 다르지 않다. 한국 기독교 공동체에는 장애를 자비와 전도의 대상으로 보는 것을 넘어 장애 자체를 성찰하는 장애 신학이 필요하다. 장애인을 위한 기독교 사회복지 실천에는 장애 패러 다임의 변화에 적응하는 것이 포함된다. 장애를 개념화하는 것은 크게 의학적 모델과 다양한 대조 모델로 분류될 수 있다. 장애 패러다임은 개인의 장애에만 초점을 맞춘 의료 모델에서 더 넓은 사회 및 환경 요인을 고려하는 사회적 모델로 전환되어 왔다. ICF 모델의 원칙, 반억 압 실천, 사랑, 연민, 정의라는 기독교 가치를 수용함으로써 기독교 사회복지는 긍정적인 변화를 위한 강력한 힘이 될 수 있으며, 인간의 완전한 포용, 존엄성 및 복지를 촉진할 수 있다.
