This study conducted an exploratory review on the operational strategies of new exhibition and convention centers using qualitative research methods. To achieve the objectives of the study, in-depth interviews were conducted with six experts in the operation of domestic exhibition and convention centers. A preliminary review of existing research showed that aspects such as public interest, profitability, professionalism, and efficiency are considered important in the operation of exhibition and convention centers. The interviews were conducted face-to-face based on a semi-structured interview guide centered around these directions. Through the interviews, various opinions on the operational strategies for new exhibition and convention centers were gathered, resulting in four strategies related to public interest and profitability, and three strategies related to professionalism and efficiency. In terms of public interest and profitability, strategies included prioritizing public interest while complementing profitability, reducing costs to alleviate economic pressures, understanding the characteristics of projects to moderate profitability expectations, and operating additional income-generating ventures considering the conditions surrounding the exhibition hall. In terms of professionalism and efficiency, strategies were derived for efficient and purposeful organizational operation, hiring of skilled professionals, and establishing mechanisms to prevent negligence in duties. The results of this study allow us to confirm the role and specific operation plan of new exhibition and convention centers as key infrastructure facilities in the exhibition and convention industry, enhancing competitiveness and generating regional impact.

본 연구는 질적연구방법을 통해 신규 전시컨벤션센터 운영 방안에 대한 탐색적 고찰을 실시하였다. 본 연구 목적 달성을 위해 국내 전시컨벤션센터 운영 전문가 6인을 대 상으로 심층 인터뷰를 진행하였다. 인터뷰 조사 전 선행연구 고찰을 실시한 결과, 전시 컨벤션센터의 운영에는 공공성, 수익성, 전문성, 효율성 등의 방향성이 중요시되는 것 으로 조사되었다. 인터뷰 조사는 이와 같은 방향성을 중심으로 구성한 반구조화된 인 터뷰지를 기반으로 대면 조사로 진행되었다. 인터뷰 조사를 통해 신규 전시컨벤션센터 운영 방안에 대한 다양한 의견에 대해 청 취하였으며 공공성과 수익성 측면의 4개 방안과 전문성과 효율성 측면의 3개 방안을 도출하였다. 공공성과 수익성 측면에서는 공공성을 우선시하되 수익성을 완화하는 방 향성, 비용절감을 통한 경제성 완화, 추진 사업 특성을 파악하여 수익성 개선, 전시장 주변 요건을 고려한 부가적인 수익사업 운영 등 4개 운영 방안을 도출하였다. 전시컨 벤션센터의 전문성과 효율성 측면에서는 효율성과 목적성을 갖춘 조직 운영과 전문성 을 갖춘 인력 채용방안, 업무 태만 방지를 위한 장치 마련 등 3개 운영 방안을 도출하 였다. 본 연구 결과를 통해 향후 신규 전시컨벤션센터의 경쟁력을 강화하고 지역 파급효과 를 불러일으키는 전시컨벤션센터의 역할과 구체적인 운영 방안을 확인 할 수 있다.
