The purpose of this paper is to reveal that the melancholy feelings expressed in Choi Seung-ja’s poems are not limited to the aspect of mental illness, but melancholy symptoms can also appear in general emotions depending on an individual‘s personality and temperament. Therefore, the melancholy expressed through Choi Seung-ja’s poems is a human emotion with ‘physical nature’, and it has been investigated that it has the emotions of pain, sorrow, anguish, and depression. Negative emotions appearing in humans are deep internalized and internalized experiences experienced while confronting distorted situations in the world. There are various interpretations of melancholy, but as Freud was the leading theology research, in the 20th century, melancholy was recognized as an obsession that comes from the perception of unhappiness and the preoccupation of self-love due to human subjective loneliness. Most of the existing papers on melancholy approached psychoanalysis. Therefore, this study looked at melancholia based on the natural temperament of Freudron and Aristotle, who view that the emotions of melancholy are not limited to specific mental disorders but also extend to general emotions that form the ‘personality of the ego’. At this time, not through Freud’s psychoanalytic perspective, but through his main concepts of ‘ambivalence’ and ‘identification’, the negative emotions appearing in Choi Seung-ja’s poetry go through the senses and the unconscious, ultimately causing internal depression and depression that acts as an external factor. The psychology of language expressed in poetry was analyzed until expressing the emotions of poetry as a genre of poetry. She says, “Sadness and melancholy mean ‘love and death’ in a broad sense, and this ‘love and death’ is the round circle and mother of sadness and melancholy. For her, sadness and melancholy can be seen as the same in that they are human emotional responses to the difficult event of the loss of a loved one. From such a point, it stretches out again with different emotions, and the language of Choi Seung-ja’s poem starts from that aspect, sadness and melancholy.

본고의 목적은 최승자의 시 언어로 나타난 멜랑콜리 감정이 정신질 환의 측면으로만 국한되지 않고 개인의 성격과 기질에 따라 일반적인 감정에서도 멜랑콜리 증상은 나타날 수 있다는 점을 밝히는 데 있다. 따라서 최승자의 시를 통해 나타나는 멜랑콜리는 ‘육체성’을 가진 인간 의 감정 중에서 특히 고통, 슬픔, 고뇌, 우울의 감정이 두드러진다는 사실을 규명하였다. 인간에게 나타나는 부정적인 정서들은 세계의 왜곡 된 상황과 대면하면서 겪게 되는 경험이 심층적으로 내재화되어 발현되 는 감정으로 멜랑콜리는 개인의 성향과 기질에 의해 나타날 수 있다는 사실을 밝혔다. 멜랑콜리에 대한 해석은 다양하지만 프로이트를 선두로 신학문으로 연구되면서 20세기에는 불행에 대한 인식과 인간의 주관적 인 고독으로 인한 자아애의 몰두에서 오는 집착으로 멜랑콜리를 인식하 였다. 멜랑콜리에 대한 기존의 논문에서는 정신분석학적으로 접근한 논문 이 대부분이었다. 그러나 본고에서는 멜랑콜리의 감정은 특수한 정신 질환에만 한정되어 나타나는 것이 아니라는 점을 강조하고자 한다. 이를 규명하기 위해 멜랑콜리가 ‘자아의 성격’을 형성하는 일반적인 감 정으로도 확장된다고 보는 프로이트론과 아리스토텔레스의 자연적 기질에 따른 멜랑콜리론을 소환하였다. 따라서 프로이트의 정신분석학 관점이 아니라 그의 주요 개념인 ‘양가감정’과 ‘동일화’의 개념을 통해 최승자의 시에 나타나는 부정적인 정서가 감각과 무의식을 거쳐 궁극에 는 내면의 우울과 외부적 요인으로 작용하는 우울의 감정을 시의 장르 로 표출시키기까지 시에 표현된 언어의 심리를 분석하였다. 그가 말하 는 슬픔과 멜랑콜리는 넓은 의미에서 ‘사랑과 죽음’을 의미하며 이 ‘사 랑과 죽음’은 슬픔과 멜랑콜리의 둥근 원이며 모태라고 할 수 있다. 그에게 있어 슬픔과 멜랑콜리는 사랑하는 대상의 상실이라는 감당하기 어려운 사건에 직면한 인간의 정서적 반응이라는 점에서 동일하다고 볼 수 있다.
