This study examined the life of Kim Chang-gyu, who achieved many achievements in relation to the development of domestic wrestling as an executive of the Korea and Asia Wrestling Association, through literature research and in-depth interviews. First, his relationship with wrestling, which he accidentally encountered in high school, played a big role in his life. Second, studying in the United States twice played an important role in developing his international ability. Third, as the international director of the Korea Wrestling Association during a period when it was difficult to participate in international competitions in the early 1980s, he laid the foundation for Korea to enter European competitions. Fourth, as a scholar, he also served as the president of the Korea Sports Association and worked hard to develop the domestic sports academia. Lastly, he was elected as the president of the Asian Wrestling Association in 1990 and served as the executive member of the World Wrestling Association, contributing to the development of Asian wrestling, and playing a major role in the history of Asian wrestling for about 30 years.

본 연구는 국내 및 아시아 레슬링협회 임원으로 국내 레슬링 발전과 관련하여 많은 업적을 이뤄낸 김창규의 삶에 대해 문헌조사 및 심층면 담을 통해 살펴보았다. 첫째, 고등학교 시절 우연히 접하게 된 레슬링과 의 인연이 그의 삶에 큰 역할을 하게 되었다. 둘째, 2번의 미국 유학은 그의 국제적 능력을 키우는데 중요한 역할을 하였다. 셋째, 1980년대 초 반 국제대회 참가가 힘들었던 시기에 대한레슬링협회 국제이사로서 우 리나라가 유럽대회에 진출할 수 있는 토대를 마련하였다. 넷째, 학자로 서도 한국체육학회장을 역임하며 국내 체육학계 발전을 위해서도 힘썼 다. 마지막으로 1990년 아시아레슬링협회 회장에 선출되고, 세계레슬링 협회 집행위원을 수행하면서 아시아레슬링 발전에 힘을 보태며 약 30년 간 아시아레슬링연맹 회장직을 수행하며 아시아레슬링 역사에 큰 역할을 하였다.
