In this paper, the the conceptual contradictions between multicultural education and Korean traditional music education was discussed. Today’s Korean traditional music education does not have a serious understanding of the concept of multiculturalism. Therefore, many people view multicultural education as simply a part of Korean traditional music education or as a device for the efficiency of Korean traditional music education. In discussions on Korean traditional music education, it is difficult to find an understanding of the power order inherent in the meaning of multiculturalism and reflection on social meaning. The error of equating Korean traditional music education with multicultural education without any logical context originates from the long-standing attitude of traditional Korean music education that only put the name of the nation first without considering the learner. In order for Korean traditional music to conform to the principles of multiculturalism, the current practice of forcing nationalism on learners must be abandoned. And we must actively think about what Korean traditional music will do for learners.

이 글에서는 다문화교육과 국악교육의 모순관계에 대해 논의한다. 오늘날 국악교육 은 다문화의 개념에 대한 진지한 이해가 없는 상태에서, 다문화교육을 단순히 국악교 육의 한 부분으로 보거나 국악교육의 효율성을 위한 장치 정도로 여기는 경우가 많다. 그렇다 보니 정작 다문화의 의미에 내재된 권력질서의 이해나 사회적 의미의 성찰을 찾아보기 어려운 것이 현실이다. 그동안 국악교육과 다문화교육을 논리적 맥락 없이 등치 시켜온 오류는 학습자에 대한 고려를 하지 않고 국가와 민족의 이름만을 앞세웠 던 국악교육 자체의 오랜 문제에서 기원한다. 국악이 다문화의 개념적 원론에 닿기 위 해서는 현재와 같은 민족주의와 국가주의 모습으로 학습자에게 강요하는 관습을 버리 고, 학습자를 위해 무엇을 할 수 있을 것인가에 대한 능동적인 고민을 시작해야 할 것 이다.
