- The purpose of this study was to examine the virtues and meaning of the Zhongyong in Seo Jeongju poetry, targeting Jilmajae myth. Zhongyong’s virtue in Seo Jeongju’s poetry unfolds as Zhongyong of sincerity, which becomes the power of change, and Zhongyong of self-integration, where autonomy and soul come to life. Zhongyong of Sincerity is an attitude of life that believes that world change begins from a small thing and lives with utmost sincerity. In Zhongyong, sincerity extends to the world of heaven and earth. In Seo Jeongju’s poetry, Sincerity’s Zhongyong develops into an act of uninterrupted progress and continuous effort that goes beyond time and space. Zhongyong of self-integration is a figure who does not shake no matter what life approaches and lives by finding the right center of life for the situation. Zhongyong’s virtue is not mechanical or physical, but dynamic and lively. In Seo Jeongju’s poetry, the Zhongyong of self-integration unfolds with the appearance of characters living with autonomy and the tremor of the soul. The virtue of Zhongyong in poet Seo Jeongju’s Jilmajae myth, has two meanings. One is that it provides an essential answer to the question of how to live. Seo Jeongju’s poetry emphasizes a human life according to the providence of nature and a Zhongyong life living like a human being, just as there is an order of Mother Nature. The other is that the Zhongyong life contained in Seo Jeongju’s poetry is becoming the ultimate posture to endure and overcome the negative reality. Seo Jeongju brings the local life that became one with nature and the Zhongyong life that resides in the traditional culture of our people to the poetry and continuously emphasizes what is the basis to be protected in the reality of modern material civilization and what direction to go.

- 본 연구는 『질마재 神話』를 대상으로 하여, 서정주 시에 나타나는 중용의 덕과 그 의미를 살피는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 서정주 시에 나타나는 중용의 덕은 변화의 힘이 되는 至誠의 中庸, 자율과 영혼이 생동하는 自得의 中庸으로 펼쳐진다. 지성의 중용은 세상의 변화는 조그만 것에서 시작된다는 것을 믿고 지극한 성실함을 실천하며 살아가는 삶의 태도이다. 『중용』에서 성실함은 천지자연의 세계까지 확대 적용된다. 서정주 시에서 지성의 중용은 시간과 공간을 뛰어넘는 중단없는 전진과 지속적인 노력의 행위로 전개된다. 자득의 중용은 어떤 삶이 다가와도 동요되지 않고 그 상황에 알맞은 삶의 중심을 찾아내며 살아가는 태도이다. 중용의 덕은 물리적이거나 기계적인 것이 아니라 생동적이고 역동적인 것이다. 서정주 시에서 자득의 중용은 자율과 영혼의 떨림으로 사는 인물들의 등장으로 펼쳐진다. 서정주 시인의 『질마재 神話』에 나타나는 중용의 덕은 두 가지 의미가 있다. 하나는 어떻게 살아야 하는가에 관한 물음에 대한 본질적인 답변을 하고 있다는 점이다. 서정주 시는 대자연에도 질서가 존재하듯 인간은 자연의 흐름과 섭리에 따라 인간다운 모습으로, 인간답게 살아가는 중용적 삶을 역설한다. 다른 하나는, 서정주 시가 담고 있는 중용적 삶은 부정한 현실을 견디고 극복해 나아갈 수 있는 궁극적인 자세가 되고 있다는 점이다. 서정주는 자연과 하나 된 향토적인 생활과 우리 민족의 전통적 문화에 어려있는 중용적 삶을 시에 끌어와 근대 물질문명의 현실에서 지켜야 할 근본은 무엇이고 나아갈 방향은 어디인지를 지속해서 강조한다.

- 한국문예창작학회(The Society of Korean Literary Creative Writing)는 한국 문학의 새 지평을 열기 위해 문예창작 이론과 문예교육 이론을 연구 계발하여 문 예창작의 새로운 방향을 제시하고자 조직한 학술단체입니다. 전국 대학과 대학원 문예창작 관련학과의 전·현직 전임교수·겸임(초빙)교수· 강 사·대학원 재학 이상자 및 문예창작인들이 회원으로 활동하고 있습니다. 학회의 목적에 적극적으로 동의하는 문학 관련 단체나 문학창작 동호인도 준회원으로 참 여하고 있습니다. 연 2회 학회지를 발간해 학문적 기반을 닦고 있으며, 정기적으로 학술 세미나 와 해외 문학 심포지엄 등 학술 발표회를 개최하여 학문적 교류와 토론의 장을 넓히고 있습니다. 한편으로, 문예창작 캠프·문학기행 등의 창작교육 활동과 창작 학습 행사를 수 시로 진행하면서, 창작·창작이론·창작교육에 관한 활동의 범위를 넓히고 있습니다. 별도로, 문예창작 교육을 받은 문예창작학도들의 진로 개발을 위해 '문예교육지도 교사 자격 시험'도 운영하고 있습니다. The Society of Korean Literary Creative Writing is a pure academic association for the literary cretive writing, and was organized on November 11, 2001 for the purpose of presenting the new direction of literary creative writing by studying all the methods to activate and develop the theories of literary creative writing and its education. Our society is composed of professors or ex-professors, some invited professor, lecturers, graduate students of the dept. of literary creative writing as regular members, and the persons interested in our program as associative members. Our society holds an annual academic meeting-- literary symposium, literary creative writing seminar-- and publishes the journal of our society and our members' anthology of literary works. Added to these, our society has already started a new project to open the way for our literary juniors by providing them with a certificate as a leader and holding a forum for literary creative writing.
