Until now, the original text of LeeHanlimjeon has not been disclosed to academia, so no information other than a simple review has been obtained. However, after LeeHanlimjeon recently belonged to the National Hangeul Museum, full-scale research b egan, and now t he o riginal t ext can be check ed t hrough t he Digital Hangeul Museum site, so follow-up research is expected to continue. In this situation, this article examined the compositional characteristics of LeeHanlimjeon focusing on the trend of feature length and factual orientation, and then reviewed the status of the work. In this regard, the phase of the feature-length trend was first analyzed by dividing it into the use of time-reversal composition, the specific description of inner psychology, the expansion of the description of political affairs, and the acceptance of Imjinrok. Next, the factual orientation of the text was examined by dividing it into the specific presentation of the time-space background, the reality of hardships and overcoming stories. These two compositional characteristics are repeated in the process of developing the narrative, and through this, LeeHanlimjeon has established a different world of works from Choicheokjeon and Namyoonjeon, which have similar plots, expanding the horizons of old novels set in the Imjin War.

그간 <이한림전>의 원문이 학계에 공개되지 않았던 탓에 간단한 해제 외의 정보를 얻 을 수 없었다. 하지만 최근 <이한림전>이 국립한글박물관으로 귀속된 후 본격적인 연구 가 시작되었으며, 현재는 디지털한글박물관 사이트를 통해 원문 확인도 가능해진 상황이 어서 후속 연구가 이어질 것으로 기대된다. 이러한 정황 속에서 본고는 <이한림전>의 구성적 특징을 장편화 경향과 사실 지향성을 중심으로 분석한 후 작품의 위상을 재 점검 하였다. 이와 관련해 먼저 텍스트의 장편화 경향의 국면을 시간 역전 구성의 활용, 내면 심리의 구체적 묘사, 政事 서술의 확대, <임진록> 전승의 수용 등으로 나누어 살폈다. 다음으로 텍스트의 사실 지향성은 시공간적 배경의 구체적 제시, 고난 및 극복담의 현실 성이라는 측면에서 언급하였다. 이러한 두 가지 구성적 특징은 서사 전개 과정에서 서로 맞물려 반복적으로 구현되는데, 이를 통해 <이한림전>은 유사한 플롯을 지닌 <최척전>, <남윤전>과는 또 다른 작품 세계를 구축하면서 임진전쟁을 배경으로 하는 고소설의 지평을 확장하고 있다.
