This study discusses the direction of graduate education in geography in the newly changing environment associated with the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. To this end, studies dealing with new educational methods in graduate education in geography were first sorted and generalized into several types including use of new educational tools, strengthening of multidisciplinarity, problem-oriented approach and others. Next, new educational attempts at the top eight university geography graduate schools in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) world university ranking were extracted from the information posted on the websites, and they also were generalized and summarized into several types including convergence, problem-oriented approach, themes and research methods reflecting the needs of the era, diversification of teaching methods and strengthening of academic communication. The results of the two analyses suggest that 21st century geography graduate education will require a convergent and multidisciplinary approach, problem-oriented or project-oriented perspective, topics and research methods to meet the needs of the new era, various types of teaching and evaluation methods, creativity-building education, and effective academic communication education.

본 연구는 4차 산업혁명 시대의 도래 등 최근 새롭게 변화하는 외적 환경 속에서 지리학의 대학원 교 육 방향이 어떠해야 하는지에 대해 논의해 본다. 이를 위해 먼저 지리학 대학원 교육에 있어 새로운 교육 방 법을 주제로 다루는 연구를 정리한 후 이들을 새로운 교육수단 활용, 다학제성 강화, 문제지향적 접근 및 기 타 등의 유형으로 일반화하였다. 다음으로, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) 세계대학순위 지리학 분야에서 상 위 8개 대학 지리학과 대학원에서의 새로운 교육 시도를 홈페이지에 게재된 정보를 통해 추출하고 이들을 융 합적 접근, 문제지향적 접근, 시대요구에 부응하는 주제와 방법론, 교수방식의 다양화, 학술적 소통 강화 등 의 유형으로 일반화하여 정리하였다. 이들 두 가지 분석을 통해, 21세기 지리학 대학원 교육에는 융합적이고 다학제적인 접근, 문제지향형 혹은 프로젝트 지향형 관점, 새로운 시대적 요구에 부응하는 주제 및 연구방법 론, 다양한 유형의 교수방식과 평가 방법, 창의성 배양 교육, 효과적인 학술적 커뮤니케이션 교육 등이 필요 할 것으로 확인되었다.
