This study aims to understand the current status of autobiographies written in Japanese by Koreans in Japan and their descendants, who traveled to or have resided in Japan during the history of Japanese imperial occupation, and to explore the main topics of their content. By doing so, it seeks to approach the history of Koreans in Japan through the stories of individual lives. From the 1960s to the 2010s, a total of 67 autobiographies by Koreans in Japan have been published. Among these, 41 were written by male authors and 26 by female authors. The first publication of an autobiography by a Korean in Japan can be attributed to Rikidozan in 1962. An autobiography is a written record of a real person's life story, covering either their entire life or a significant part of it, by the person themselves. All 67 books demonstrate that their authors are individuals with dignity. The historicity of autobiographies from ordinary people has the meaning that the voices of those who cannot speak are being told. Above all, the “individual life” that oscillates between the special and the universal is more concretely expressed than in other historical records, giving meaning to finely fill in the mesh of the history of Koreans in Japan.

본 연구는 일제강점기의 역사 속에서 일본으로 건넌 가 살았거나 거주하고 있는 당사자와 그 후손들인 재일코리안에 의해 일본어로 저술되어 일본에서 출간된 자서전의 현황을 파악하고 그 내용의 주요 토픽을 살펴 재일코리안의 역사를 개인의 삶의 서사로 접근하는 것을 목적으로 이루어졌다. 1960년대부터 2010년대까지 재일코리안의 자서전은 합계 67권이 출간되었다. 이 중 남성 저자에 의한 자서전은 41권, 여성 저자에 의한 자서전은 26권이다. 1962년에 역도산이 집필한 것이 재일코리안 자서전의 첫 출간이라 할 수 있다. 자서전은 실존한 개인이 직접 자기 삶의 서사를 생애 전반 혹은 반생을 역사 기록으로 저술한 것이다. 전체 67권의 저자는 모두 개인으로서 존엄성을 지닌 인물이라는 것을 자서전은 보여준다. 자서전이 지닌 한 개인의 생애 또는 반생의 역사성은 말할 수 없는 자들의 목소리가 말해진다는 의미가 있다. 무엇보다는 특수와 보편을 넘나드는 ‘개인의 삶’이 다른 역사 기록의 문헌보다 더 구체적으로 표현되어, 재일코리안 역사의 그물망을 촘촘히 메워주는 주는 의미를 지닌다.
