Classics-Reading is consistently used as a character education activity that enhances humanity and develops humane character. This study conducted a case study to determine how exploration, analysis, discussion, and application activities used as classics-reading activity strategies can affect moral, civic, performative, and intellectual character. The activity of exploring the content of classics in connection with life, analyzing them with a focus on key keywords, and then applying them to social problems strengthens intellectual creativity, curiosity, metacognition, and critical thinking. Next, devising various strategies for reading classics helps build performative character such as self-control and initiative. Lastly, the meaning and value of life realized through the content of classics strengthens moral character, and discussion activities by reading classics and sharing thoughts can help form civic character such as cooperation, responsibility, communication, and sense of community.

고전 읽기는 인간성 고양과 인간다운 성품을 길러주는 인성교육 활 동으로 꾸준히 활용되고 있다. 본 연구는 고전 읽기 활동 전략으로 활 용된 탐구, 분석, 토론, 적용 활동이 도덕적, 시민적, 수행적, 지적 인성 에 어떤 영향을 줄 수 있는지 알아보기 위한 사례연구를 진행하였다. 고전의 내용을 삶과 연계해 탐구하고 핵심 키워드를 중심으로 분석한 뒤 사회 문제에 적용하는 활동은 지적 인성의 창의성, 호기심, 메타인 지, 비판적 사고를 강화한다. 그다음으로 고전을 읽기 위한 다양한 전 략을 고안함으로써 자기 조절, 주도성과 같은 수행적 인성 형성에 도 움을 준다. 마지막으로 고전 속 내용을 통해 깨달은 삶의 의미와 가치 는 도덕적 인성을 강화하며 고전을 읽고 생각을 나누는 토론 활동은 협동, 책임, 의사소통, 공동체 의식과 같은 시민적 인성을 형성하는 데 도움을 줄 수 있다.
