This study aims to investigate the realization and characteristics of inanimate agents in the Korean language. This exploration of inanimate agents is part of animacy research, specifically delving into agency associated with transitive verbs, commonly known as an ‘effectors’ or ‘causers.’ This paper scrutinizes structures identified as “the factors / causes of an action,” encompassing constructions such as ‘noun phrase +에서,’ ‘noun phrase + 에,’ ‘noun phrase + 에 의해,’ and ‘noun phrase + 로.’ Notably, the presence of inanimate agents is not confined to the subject position in a sentence, revealing a disparity between grammatical relations and semantic roles. Furthermore, inanimate agents are not bound by the predicate. Subordinate clauses that can be interpreted as conditions or causes reflect the characteristics of inanimate agents to a significant extent. This paper also delves into causative constructions involving inanimate agents, addressing issues pertinent to the existing causative concept. This research contributes to a nuanced understanding of the interaction between inanimate agents and causes, providing valuable insights into the structures of events and agency.

이 논문은 한국어의 무정물 행위 주체의 실현 방식과 특징을 고찰한다. 무정물 행위 주체(inanimate agents)의 탐구는 유정성(animacy) 연구의 한 부분 으로, 이는 유정물 행위 주체(agent)와 관련된 개념으로서 영향자(effector)나 원인자(causer)로 불리기도 한다. 이 논문에서 ‘행위의 기인/요인’으로 해석 되는 ‘명사구+에서’ 구성, ‘명사구+에’ 구성, ‘명사구+에 의해’ 그리고 ‘명 사구+로’의 구성을 분석한다. 무정 행위 주체는 문장의 주어 위치에 나타 나지 않아 문법적 관계와 의미역의 실현 불일치를 확인할 수 있다. 또한, 무정 행위 주체는 술어의 결속을 받지 않는다. 조건이나 원인으로 해석되 는 소절은 무정 행위 주체의 특징을 상당히 반영한다. 무정 행위 주체가 불분명해질수록 피동과 자동 중의적 해석이 가능해지며, 이는 중간 역할을 수행한다는 것을 나타낸다. 마지막으로, 무정 행위 주체가 나타나는 사 동 구문의 특징을 검토한다. 이 연구를 통해 행위 주체와 원인 해석 사이 의 연관성을 보다 깊이 이해할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
