This paper aims to read Seo Jeong-ju’s first collection of poems, Hwasajib, focusing on the sensibility and disability of the body and referring to Merlot Fonty’s theory. As a result of the study, the types of disabilities in Hwasajib were language disorders, mental disorders, physical disorders, and visual disorders, and it was considered that the body as the basis of existence and the world as the senses were identified in Seo Jeong-ju’s perception. In Chapter 2, it was confirmed that the language disorders in Hwasajib, centered on ‘Wall’, ‘Hwasa’, and ‘Sea’, represent the relationship between the oppressive reality of colonization and orientation toward the mother tongue symbolized by the loss of language ability. In Chapter 3, which focuses on ‘Self-Portrait’, ‘Moondongi’, and ‘Macha’, it was found that mental and physical disorders are linked to the desperate sense of existence of self-checking beyond frustration or defeat in reality. In Chapter 4, which examines the types of visual impairment, focusing on ‘See’, ‘Door’, ‘Sudae-dong’, ‘Seopungbu’, and ‘Resurrection’, poetic subjects in a temporary and tentative state of visual impairment have read the willingness to overcome the disability beyond the time of psychosis and imprisonment. Through this, it was confirmed that the complex type of disability shown in Hwasajib is a method of aesthetic formalization that expresses tragedy and resistance to the colonial system beyond the implication of literary imagery of self-experience including the identification of the self and the world.

이 논문은 메를로 퐁티의 이론을 참고해 서정주의 첫 시집인 『화사집』을 몸 의 감각과 장애 양상을 중심으로 새롭게 읽는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구 결과 『화사집』의 장애 유형은 언어장애, 정신장애, 신체장애, 시각장애로 나타났으 며, 서정주의 인식 속에서 실존의 토대로서의 몸과 감각으로서의 세계가 동일시 되고 있음을 고찰하였다. 2장에서는 「벽」, 「화사」, 「바다」를 중심으로 『화사집』에 나타난 언어장애가 언어능력의 상실로 상징되는 모국어에 대한 지향성과 식민치하라는 억압적인 현실의 관계를 표상함을 확인했다. 「자화상」, 「문둥이」, 「맥하」를 중심으로 살핀 3장에서는 정신장애 및 신체장애가 현실에 대한 좌절감이나 패배감을 넘어 자기 확인이라는 처절한 실존의식과 연결되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 마지막으로 「바다」, 「문」, 「수대동시」, 「서풍부」, 「부활」을 중심으로 시각장애 유형을 살핀 4장에서는 일시적이고 잠정적인 시각장애의 상태에 놓인 시적 주체들이 정신병 과 징역의 시간을 벗어나 장애를 극복하고자 하는 의지를 읽어냈다. 이를 통해 『화사집』에 나타난 복합적인 장애 유형이 자아와 세계의 동일시에서 비롯한 자 기 체험의 문학적 형상화라는 함의를 넘어, 식민체제에 대한 비극성과 저항성을 표출하는 미학적 형식화의 방식임을 확인할 수 있었다.
