As the importance of ESG spreads not only to companies but also to the public sector, it is time for individuals to conduct research on ESG literacy to understand ESG management and policies. Accordingly, this study defined ESG literacy as ‘the ability to accurately identify and understand ESG’ and empirically analyzed its influencing factors. As a result of the analysis, it was found that ESG literacy improved as interest in social problems increased, and ESG literacy also increased when actively participating in solving social problems. In addition, it was found that the stronger the trust in social problem-solving organizations such as social enterprises and social ventures that value the realization of social goals through solving social problems, the higher the ESG literacy. As a result of conducting a generational analysis reflecting the trends of the MZ generation, which can be more active in ESG, such as eco-friendly consumption and good consumption, interest in social issues was confirmed to be a major factor in increasing ESG literacy for both the MZ generation and the older generation. Active participation in solving social problems and the older generation's strong trust in social problem-solving organizations were found to be factors that increase ESG literacy. Through analysis, this study suggests that policies such as the development of a platform-centered system where interest in social problems and participation in solving them lead to understanding of ESG and the diversification of essential ESG education programs are needed.

ESG에 대한 중요성이 기업뿐만 아니라 공공부문에도 확산되면서 국민 개인도 ESG 경영과 정책을 이해하기 위해 ESG 리터러시에 대한 연구가 필요한 시점이다. 이에 본 연구는 ESG 리터러시를 ‘ESG 를 정확하게 파악하고 이해할 수 있는 능력’으로 정의하고 이의 영향요인을 실증적으로 분석하였다. 분석결과, 사회문제에 대한 관심이 높을수록 ESG 리터러시는 향상되는 것으로 나타났으며, 사회문제 해결에 적극적으로 참여하는 경우에도 ESG 리터러시는 높아지는 결과를 보였다. 또한, 사회적 기업, 소셜벤처와 같이 사회문제 해결을 통한 사회적 목적 실현을 중시하는 사회문제 해결 조직에 대한 신 뢰가 강할수록 ESG 리터러시는 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 친환경 소비, 착한 소비 등 ESG에 보다 적극적일 수 있는 MZ세대의 트렌드를 반영하여 세대별 분석을 실시한 결과, MZ세대와 기성세대 모 두 사회문제 관심도는 ESG 리터러시를 높이는 주요한 요인으로 확인되었으며, MZ세대는 사회문제 해결에 대한 적극적인 참여, 기성세대는 사회문제 해결 조직에 대한 강한 신뢰가 각각 ESG 리터러시 를 높이는 요인으로 나타났다. 분석을 통해 본 연구는 플랫폼을 중심으로 사회문제에 대한 관심과 해결의 참여가 ESG에 대한 이해로 이어지는 시스템의 개발과 필수적인 ESG 교육 프로그램의 다각화 등과 같은 정책이 필요함을 시사한다.
