The purpose of this study was to find out what the career selection factors were for first-year early childhood education students of Generation Z and what their motivation for choosing the teaching profession was like. The subjects of the study were 75 first-year students in the Department of Early Childhood Education in the Seoul and Gyeonggi. Open-ended questionnaires were distributed, and data were analyzed through type analysis and frequency analysis. The results of the study were as follows. First, the job selection factors of the students, in order of frequency, were found to be aptitude, income, interest, reward/self-actualization, work environment, and others. Second, the motivation of the students to choose a teaching profession was largely divided into those who had motivation to choose a teaching profession and those who lacked motivation to choose a teaching profession. Specifically, the motivation for choosing a teaching profession is intrinsic motivation such as affection for children, aptitude, childhood dreams, and personal experience, altruistic motivation such as social contribution and reward, and extrinsic motivation such as grades, stability of the teaching profession, recommendation from people, and work characteristics. It was found that the motivation for lack of teaching profession was intrinsic motivation such as aptitude and interest, and extrinsic motivation such as social change and working conditions. The results of this study are significant in providing basic data for setting the direction of career guidance for pre-service early childhood teachers and pre-service teacher education.

본 연구는 Z세대인 유아교육과 1학년 학생들의 직업 선택 요인과 교직 선택 동기를 알아 보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 연구대상은 서울ㆍ경기 지역의 4년제 대학 유아교육과 1학년 재 학생 75명이었으며, 개방형 질문지를 활용하여 자료를 수집하고 유형적 분석 및 빈도분석을 실시하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 유아교육과 1학년 학생들의 직업 선택 요인을 빈도가 높은 순으로 나열하면 적성, 수입, 흥미, 보람ㆍ자아실현, 근무환경, 기타인 것으로 나 타났다. 둘째, 유아교육과 1학년 학생들의 교직 선택 동기는 크게 교직 선택 동기가 있는 경 우와 교직 선택 동기가 결여된 경우로 나누어졌다. 구체적으로 교직 선택 동기는 유아에 대 한 애정, 적성, 어린 시절 꿈, 개인적 경험과 같은 내재적 동기, 사회 기여, 보람과 같은 이타 적 동기, 성적, 교직의 안정성, 주변 권유, 업무 특성과 같은 외재적 동기였고, 교직 선택 결 여 동기는 적성, 흥미와 같은 내재적 동기, 사회적 변화, 근무조건과 같은 외재적 동기인 것 으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 예비유아교사의 진로 지도 및 예비교사교육의 방향성을 설 정하는 데 기초자료를 제공한다는 의의가 있다.
