This study sought to gain implications for the direction of development of university liberal arts education by analyzing topics related to university liberal arts education covered in news articles and identifying changes in topics over time. For this purpose, LDA topic modeling analysis was conducted on 240 related news articles. As a result, the topics of the 2000s were pointing out the lack of liberal arts education in universities, diversifying liberal arts subjects, establishing a domestic completion system for liberal arts courses from overseas universities, and the topics of the 2010s were the role of liberal education in universities, universities’ efforts to redefine the role of liberal education, considering the introduction of practical subjects in university education, establishment of a liberal arts college in universities, the topic for the 2020s was exchange of liberal arts education between universities, and as a result of liberal arts education consulting at the Korea Institute for General Education, ESG management as liberal education. According to these research results, the need to consider the definition and role of university liberal arts education, the standards for liberal arts education consulting at the Korea Institute for Liberal Arts and Basic Education, and the reflection of newly required civic competencies was mentioned.

본 연구는 대학 교양교육 관련 뉴스기사의 토픽을 분석하고 시간 흐름에 따른 토픽의 변화를 파악함으로써 대학 교양교육의 발전 방향에 대한 시사점을 얻고자 하였다. 이를 위해 2000년부터 2023년까지의 관련 뉴스기사 240건을 대상으로 LDA 토픽모델링을 통해 10년 단위로 분석하였다. 그 결과 2000년대 토픽은 ‘대 학 교양교육 부실 지적, 교양과목 다양화, 해외 대학 교양과목 국내 이수제도 마 련’, 2010년대 토픽은 ‘대학에서의 교양교육 역할, 교양교육 역할 재정립을 위한 대학의 노력, 대학교양에 실용과목 도입 고려, 대학의 교양대학 설립’, 2020년대 토픽은 ‘대학 간 교양교육 교류, 한국교양기초교육원 교양교육컨설팅 결과, 교양교 육으로서의 ESG경영’으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과에 따라 대학 교양교육의 정 의와 역할, 한국교양기초교육원의 교양교육컨설팅 기준, 새롭게 요구되는 시민역 량 반영 등에 대한 고민의 필요성을 언급하였다.
