This paper aims to assess the position of educational drama within the entire research domain of Professor Hwang Jeonghyeon, a pioneer in the field of educational drama in Korea, and to explore the research directions Professor Hwang envisions for his successors. To this end, the paper summarizes the examination of the relationship between Professor Hwang's research in Korean language education and his studies in children's literature and literature education, and how these relate to educationa... Firstly, it is noted that Professor Hwang had a particular interest in methodologies to enhance the outcomes of elementary Korean language education. He placed more emphasis on pursuing methodologies that could maximize the effects of Korean language education theories on learners, rather than on refining the theories themselves. This pursuit is closely connected to the field of educational drama research pioneered by Professor Hwang, as it represents an extension of his serious quest for ideal ... Secondly, in the research on children's literature and elementary literature education, the principle that learners should discover meaning through their experiences and develop their abilities, along with a serious metacognitive attitude that content should be appropriate to the developmental level of the target children, has been a major driving force in leading and sustaining Professor Hwang’s involvement in educational drama research. The task of analyzing and confirming how these driving forces have been concretized in Professor Hwang's educational drama research achievements and how they have offered new perspectives is left to the future scholars in the field of educational drama.

본논문은 우리나라 교육 연극 분야의 선구자, 황정현 교수에게 교육연극 분야는 과연 그의 전체 연구영 역 중 어떤 입지점을 갖고 있는지를 가늠하고, 아울러 황교수가 후학들에게 기대하는 연구 뱡향이 무엇 일 지를 찾아보는 일에 단초를 제공하는데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 황교수의 국어교육 관련 연구와 더불어 아동문학 및 문학교육 분야의 연구 경향은 과연 교육 연극 연구와 어떤 연관성을 지닌 지 살펴본 것을 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 황교수는 초등 국어교육의 성과를 진작시키기 위한 방법론에 대하여 남다른 관심을 갖고 있었다 는 점이다. 곧 국어교육 이론을 다듬는 일보다 그 이론의 성과를 학습자에게 극대화시킬 방법론 추구에 더 비중을 두었다는 점이다. 그리고 그 이상적 방법론 구현을 진지하게 추구하는 연장 선상에서 황교수 가 개척해낸 교육연극 분야 연구와 맞닿아 있다는 점이다. 둘째, 아동 문학 연구와 초등 문학 교육 연구에서는 학습자의 경험을 통해 의미를 발견하게 하고 능력을 계발하는 것으로 나아가야한다는 지론과 더불어, 대상 아동의 발달도에 걸맞는 적절한 수준의 내용을 다뤄야한다는 진지한 메타적 성찰의 자세야말로 황교수를 교육연극 연구로 나아가게 하고 지속시키는 데 주요 동인으로 작용한 것이라고 볼 수 있다 이제 이 동인들이 황교수의 교육연극 연구성과에서 어떻게 구체화되고 어떻게 새로운 조망을 제시했는 지를 분석 확인하는 일은 교육연극학 분야의 후학들에게 미룬다.
