The purpose of this study was to analyze elementary school teachers' perceptions of Korean music creation classes and, based on this, to seek ways to improve Korean music creative education. For this purpose, five elementary school teachers were selected as research participants and an interview study was conducted. Interviews were conducted according to four categories: ‘necessity and goals of Korean music creative education, contents and methods of Korean music creative education, evaluation of Korean music creative education, and direction for improvement of Korean music creative education’. By analyzing teachers’ perceptions of these, the directions for improvement in Korean music creative education were sought as follows. First, there is a need to develop a curriculum that includes information on the categories and hierarchies of Korean music creative activities. Second, it is necessary to develop textbooks that can increase the accessibility and effectiveness of Korean music creation instruction. Third, to ensure internal stability in the evaluation of Korean music creation, it is necessary to develop evaluation tools that can be used to evaluate Korean music creation. Fourth, teacher education must be provided to revitalize Korean music creation classes. Fifth, media distribution and an environment to support Korean music creation classes must be created. The significance of this study is that it closely analyzes how Korean music creative classes are conducted in schools and teachers’ perceptions of this and suggests directions for improvement in Korean music creative education based on the analysis. In the future, it is hoped that multifaceted research will be conducted on specific aspects of teaching, learning, and evaluation so that the essence of Korean music creative education can be realized.

본 연구는 국악 창작 수업에 대한 초등교사의 인식을 분석하고, 이에 기초하여 국악 창작 교육의 개선 방향을 모색하는 데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 초등교사 5명을 연구 참여자로 선정하여 면담 연구를 실행하였다. 면담은 ‘국악 창작교육의 필요성과 목표, 국악 창작 수업의 내용 및 방법, 국악 창작 수업 의 평가, 국악 창작교육의 개선 방향’의 네 가지 범주에 따라 실시하였으며, 이에 대한 교사 들의 인식을 분석하여 국악 창작교육의 개선 방향을 다음과 같이 모색하였다. 첫째, 국악 창 작 활동의 범주와 위계에 관한 정보를 포함하는 형태로 교육과정을 개발할 필요가 있다. 둘 째, 국악 창작 지도의 접근성 및 효과를 높일 수 있는 교과서를 개발해야 한다. 셋째, 국악 창작 평가의 내실화를 위해 국악 창작 평가에 활용할 수 있는 평가도구를 개발할 필요가 있 다. 넷째, 국악 창작 수업의 활성화를 위해 교사교육을 제공해야 한다. 다섯째, 국악 창작 수업 지원을 위한 매체 보급 및 환경을 조성해 나가야 한다. 본 연구는 국악 창작 수업이 학교 현장에서 어떤 방식으로 이루어지고 있는지, 이에 대한 교사들의 인식을 면밀히 분석하고 이를 바탕으로 국악 창작교육의 개선 방향을 제시한 의의 가 있다. 앞으로 국악 창작교육의 본질을 구현해 나갈 수 있도록 교수ㆍ학습과 평가의 구체 적 단면에 대한 다각적인 연구가 이루어지길 바란다.
