This study aims to explore the differences between the official subtitles and the fan subtitles in terms of the translation techniques of idiomatic expressions used in the drama Descendants of the Sun. Based on the previous studies, this study establishes a classification criterion of translation techniques for idiomatic expressions. Then, it collects four episodes of Descendants of the Sun by using a random sampling method, and analyzes the translation techniques of idiomatic expressions, catchphrases and slang that appear in both the official and fan subtitles. The results show that both the official and fan subtitles employ direct translation techniques such as literal translation, free translation and substitution flexibly. However, the official subtitles tend to use free translation and substitution more, while the fan subtitles rely more on literal translation. Moreover, it is found that the official subtitles show the characteristics of cultural context by replacing the original language with allegorical sayings, mottos, proverbs and idioms in Chinese. And in the fan subtitles, this study also identifies the characteristics of adding explanations, and detects some mistranslations. Although this study has the limitation of not analyzing the whole content of the drama, it has certain research significance as it focuses on the relatively neglected aspect of idiomatic expressions and observes the differences between the official and fan subtitles, which are influenced by the active fan culture.

본 연구는 드라마 <태양의 후예> 자막에 등장한 관용 표현을 번역하는 과정에서 공식 자막과 팬 자막의 번역 기법 간의 차이를 탐구하는 데 목적을 둔다. 이를 위해 선행 연구에서 제시한 번역 기법을 바탕으로 관용 표현 번역 기법 분류 기준을 마련하였다. 이를 토대로 본 연구에서는 <태양의 후예>를 무작위 표본 추출법으로 4회 분량을 수 집하여, 공식 자막과 팬 자막에 등장한 관용구, 유행어, 비속어를 포함한 관용 표현의 번역 기법을 비교 분석하였다. 그 결과 공식 자막과 팬 자막에서는 직역, 의역, 대체 등 다양한 번역 기법이 융통성 있게 활용되고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 구체적으로 공식 자막에서는 의역과 대체 기법을 주로 채택하였으며, 팬 자막에서는 직역 중심으로 번 역되었다. 그리고 공식 자막에서 출발어의 문화적 맥락을 중국어의 헐후어, 격언, 속담, 성어로 대체하는 특성이 발견되었다. 팬 자막에서는 부연 설명이라는 팬 자막의 특성 이 본 연구에서도 확인되었으며, 오역도 관찰되었다. 본 연구는 드라마의 전 편을 분석 하지 못하여 연구의 결과를 일반화하는 데 한계가 있으나, 팬 자막이 활성화되는 현 시 점에서 팬 자막 연구 분야 중 상대적으로 소홀히 다루어진 관용 표현에 중점을 두어 공 식 자막과의 번역 양상의 차이를 살펴보았다는 데 의미가 있을 것이다.
