This article studies 17 nurse missionaries who worked in 1905-1940 for the Southern Presbyterian Mission in the United States in Korea(SPMK). To this end, this article analyzes the medical missionary policy of the SPMK, the work structure of missionary hospitals, and the missionary activities and missionary characteristics of individual nurses. It also analyzes the gap and limitations between demands of mission fields and mission policies, and changes in policies over time. As analysis data for this, the minutes of the annual meeting of the SPMK (1905-1940), medical committee reports, and public and private letters from individual missionaries are used. However, since this article analyzes the 17 nursing missionaries of the SPMK, it does not attempt an in-depth analysis of individual missionaries.

본 글은 미국남장로교 해외선교실행위원회의 한국선교회에서 1905- 1940년에 활동한 모든 간호선교사 17명을 연구한다. 이를 위하여 본 글은 남장로교의 의료선교정책과 선교병원의 업무 구조, 개별간호사들의 선교 활동과 선교적 특징을 분석한다. 또한 선교현장의 요구와 선교정책의 괴리 및 한계, 시간의 경과를 통한 정책의 변화 등도 분석한다. 이를 위한 분석 자료로서 한국선교회의 연례회의록(1905-1940), 의료위원회보고서 및 개 별 선교사들의 공적·사적 편지 등이 활용된다. 그러나 이 글은 한국선교 회의 17명의 간호선교사들을 분석하는 것이기 때문에 개별 선교사들에 대 한 심층 분석은 하지 않는다.
