The purpose of this study is to derive implications for establishing measures to prevent school violence through a conceptual expansion of the effect of the external environment of the school on school violence by exploring the relationship between unit elementary school violence and adjacent middle school violence. The study found that the number of school violence in middle schools had a statistically significant effect on the number of school violence in neighboring elementary schools, using a multilevel model, a semester-by-semester analysis, a year-by-year analysis, and a binary fixed effects model. The policy implications are as follows. First, it is necessary to conduct joint prevention education of violence for elementary and middle schools at the district level. Second, it is necessary to take practical measures such as parent police and school guard activities with neighboring elementary and middle schools to manage safety around shared school routes with upper schools. Third, when a case of school violence involves an upper school student as the perpetrator and a lower school student as the victim, it is necessary to give more weight to measures against the perpetrator. The significance of this study is that it expands the category of out-of-school environment by checking the influence of school violence in neighboring upper schools, which is different from the previously categorized factors in the out-of-school environment among environmental factors affecting school violence.

본 연구는 Sutherland (1947)의 차별접촉이론을 중심으로 단위 초등학교 학교폭력이 인접한 중학교의 학교폭력과 어떠한 관계가 있는지를 탐색함으로써, 학교 외부 환경이 학교폭력에 미치는 영향에 대한 개념적 확장을 도모하였다. 이를 위해 2018-2019년 기준 경기도 내 451개 의 중학교-초등학교 매칭 표본을 대상으로 하여 지역과 단위학교 층위를 고려한 2수준 다층 모형(multi-level model)과 이원고정효과모형(two-way fixed effect model)을 적용하여 분석하 였다. 연구 결과, 중학교의 학교폭력 심의 건수가 인접 초등학교 학교폭력 심의 건수에 통계 적으로 유의한 영향을 미친다는 것을 확인하였다. 이를 바탕으로 도출해낸 정책적 시사점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학구 단위의 초·중등학교 공동 학교폭력 예방 교육을 실시할 필요가 있다. 둘째, 상급학교와의 공동 통학로 주변 안전 관리를 위해 인근 초·중등학교가 함께하는 학부모 폴리스, 학교지킴이 활동 등의 실제적인 방안이 필요하다. 셋째, 상급학교 학생이 가해학생, 하급학교 학생이 피해학생일 경우, 가해학생에 대한 조치에 가중치를 부여할 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 학교폭력에 영향을 미치는 환경적 요인 중 학교 밖 환경에 있어서 기존에 범주 화된 요인들에서 벗어나, 인접 상급학교의 학교폭력이 미치는 영향력을 확인함으로써 학교 밖 환경의 범주를 확장하였다는 점에서 의의를 갖는다.
