This study aims to establish the status of Eumchangga through its detailed review and further the status of Gisachongrok, a collection of Gasas, based on it. Gisachongrok is a collection of 18 Gasas including Eumchangga. It was compiled by Maurice Courant(1865~1935) in the late 19th century and is housed at the BULAC Library of Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales(INALCO) in France. There is a brief transcription note saying that Yongho wrote it in the Gyemi year at the end of the book. The investigator focused his review on Eumchangga to figure out which year Gyemi was. Eumchangga is the same work as Chupunggambyeolgok. There are two possibilities regarding the word “Eumchang.” It could refer to a Gisaeng or a singing style. Both possibilities were reviewed in the study. It does not matter which of the possibilities was true since the title was a tentative one before the full-scale title which of the possibilities was true. In this sense, it is highly likely that Eumchangga is the earliest of the different versions of Chupunggambyeolgok. This can be also verified through the analysis of the main body of Eumchangga. Based on that Chupunggambyeolgok is sung in six verses, the study analyzed Eumchangga in six verses and found that each of the verses evenly had words or phrases showing its characteristics as an early version. As Eumchangga was verified as the earliest version of Chupunggambyeolgok, the study established that the Gyemi year when Gisachongrok was transcribed was 1823. Eumchangga is the earliest version of Chupunggambyeolgok, which includes a Gisaeng’s love story transmitted in the Pyeongyang area, and this fact implies the possibility that Gisachongrok, the collection of Gasas including the work, was transcribed in Pyeongyang. The study thus traced Yongho related to Pyeongyang and found a good possibility that she was Gisaeng Jukhyang. These facts indicate that Gisachongrok holds a very important status as a collection of Gasas with a unique nature transcribed by a Pyeongyang Gisaeng in the early 19th century.

이 글에서는 <음창가>에 대한 자세한 검토를 통해 그 위상을 확립하고 이를 바탕으로 가사집 『기사총록』의 위상을 제대로 정립하고자 하였다. 『기사총록』은 <음창가>를 비롯하여 18편의 가사가 수록된 가사집이다. 이 가사집은 19세기 말에 모리스 쿠랑(Maurice Courant, 1865~1935)이 수집한 것으로, 현재 프랑스 동양언어문화대학(INALCO) BULAC 도서관에 소장되어 있다. 책의 말미에 계미년(癸未年)에 용호(蓉湖)라는 사람이 적었다는 간단한 필사기가 있다. 이 계미년이 언제인지 알아보기 위해 <음창가>를 집중적으로 검토하였다. <음창가>는 <추풍감별곡>과 동일 작품이다. ‘음창’이라는 말과 관련하여 기생을 가리킬 가능성과 가창 방식을 나타낼 가능성을 함께 검토하였고, 어느 쪽이든 이 제명이 본격적인 이름을 얻기 이전에 임시적으로 사용된 것이라는 점에서 <음창가>가 <추풍감별곡>의 이본 중 가장 초기본일 가능성이 높다고 보았다. 이는 <음창가> 본문에 대한 분석을 통해서도 확인할 수 있었다. 현행 <추풍감별곡>이 6절로 나뉘어 불리는 것을 참고하여 <음창가>를 6절로 나누어 분석한 결과 각각의 절마다 고르게 초기 이본으로서의 특성을 보여주는 어휘나 구절들이 존재하는 것을 볼 수 있었다. <음창가>가 <추풍감별곡>의 이본 중 가장 초기본이라는 것이 확인됨에 따라 『기사총록』의 필사연대인 계미년은 1823년으로 확정할 수 있게 되었다. 또한 <음창가>가 평양 일대에서 유전되던 기생의 사랑 이야기를 담고 있는 <추풍감별곡>의 가장 초기본이라는 사실은, 이 작품을 수록한 가사집인 『기사총록』이 평양에서 필사되었을 가능성을 시사하는 것으로 보았다. 이에 따라 평양과 관련이 있는 용호라는 인물을 추적한 결과 그가 기생 죽향일 가능성이 높은 것으로 파악되었다. 이상의 사실을 통해 『기사총록』은 19세기 초에 평양 기생이 필사한 독특한 성격의 가사집으로서 매우 중요한 위상을 갖는 것임을 알게 되었다.
