This study investigated the changed meaning of village rites in a village that has changed through urban development. According to previous studies, if there were many natives who resettled in a village after urban development, the transmission of village rites was smooth. In the Sinnae-dong Neungmal Gyeongju Im Clan village, which is the subject of this study, village rites could not continue even though the majority of the natives were resettled after urban development. The development of Neungmal in Sinnae-dong served as an opportunity to strengthen the Gyeongju Im Clan’s family association, which was a blood-related community within the local community, focusing on the blood-related community. When the clan community was in danger of being disintegrated due to village development, the clan association actively responded by reorganizing the clan center, securing space, and strengthening meetings based on the material foundation formed through village development. The strengthened clan association naturally became a focal point to replace the local community called Neungmal for the majority of native Gyeongju Im clan relatives who resettled in the village, but the transmission of the Neungmal DoDangJe was not continued. In conclusion, in villages that have changed due to urban development, the meaning of village rites has not only been reduced to the inheritance of old traditions, a central point, and emotional ties, but it is also difficult to re-transmit them down if they do not continuously acquire meaning. On the other hand, if village rites acquire new meaning, they can be re-transmitted. Regarding this, this paper mentioned that village rites can have an educational function through historical tours, etc.

본고는 도시개발을 통해 변화된 마을에서 변화된 마을제사의 의미를 찾고자 한 것이다. 선행연구를 보면 도시개발 이후 마을에 재정착한 토박이가 많을수록 마을제사의 전승이 원활했다는 것을 알 수 있다. 본고의 연구대상인 신내동 능말 경주임씨 집성촌은 도시개발 후에 대다수의 토박이가 재정착했음에도 불구하고 마을제사가 중단되었다. 신내동 능말의 개발은 능말의 지연공동체이면서 혈족공동체였던 경주임씨 종친회를 혈족공동체로 강화시키는 역할을 했다. 종친회는 마을 개발로 혈족공동체가 와해될 위기에 처하자 마을 개발을 통해 형성된 물적토대를 기반으로 종원 정비, 종친공간 확보, 종친모임 강화 등의 적극적인 대응을 하였다. 강화된 종친회는 자연스럽게 마을에 재정착한 대다수의 토박이인 경주임씨 종친들에게 능말이라는 지연공동체를 대체할 구심점이 되었고, 능말 도당제의 전승은 이어지지 못했다. 결국 도시개발에 따라 변화된 마을에서 마을제사는 옛전통의 계승, 구심점 및 정서적 유대관계로 의미가 축소된 것뿐만 아니라 지속적으로 이 의미들이 획득되지 못한다면 전승되기 어렵다는 것을 보여준다. 다른 한편으로는 마을제사가 의미를 새롭게 획득한다면 재전승될 수 있다는 것을 말해주는 것이기도 하다. 이에 대해 본고에서는 마을제사가 역사탐방 등을 통한 교육의 기능을 지닐 수 있음을 언급하였다.
