This paper is one of the measures for the qualitative development of Korean studies majors operated by some European universities, and it actively utilizes 'column', which is a part of the newspaper pages, in the field of Korean language class and discusses its effects in detail. Around 2010, Korean studies majors were newly opened or expanding their existing scale at various universities in Europe. In the case of Korean studies majors in some universities in recent years, the number of enrolled students is already making quantitative development beyond Chinese or Japanese studies. Accordingly, I believe that it is time to strengthen the internal stability for the development of overseas Korean studies majors. This is because the future of overseas Korean studies cannot be guaranteed unless the qualitative development of Korean studies majors operated by overseas universities is supported. However, the reality is that most universities, where the current Korean studies major is established around 10 years, do not have all the conditions for the qualitative growth of Korean studies. In particular, the Korean studies major courses currently provided to master's students who are likely to grow into Korean experts in the future are very scarce. The master's course in the Korean Studies major at the University of Latvia, where i'm currently working, is not much different. In this realistic situation, i actively used 'column' in the course and examined its evaluation in the Korean language classes provided during the third semester of the fourth semester of the master's course as a way to improve the Korean proficiency of master's students and to enhance their understanding of Korea. To this end, a survey was conducted for current students who participated in Korean language classes during the second semester and those who completed the Korean language course during the third semester. Through the results of the survey, it was confirmed that the responses of students were generally positive. In addition, i suggested several expected effects of using columns in the classes.

본고는 일부 유럽대학에서 운영하고 있는 한국학 전공의 질적인 발전을 위한 방안 중의 하나로 한국의 활자매체 중에서 신문지면의 일부인 ‘칼럼’을 한국어 수업현장에서 적극적 으로 활용하고 그 효과에 대해서 구체적으로 논의한 것이다. 2010년도를 전후하여 유럽 의 여러 대학에서 한국학 전공이 새로이 개설되거나 기존의 규모를 확대해 가고 있는 상황이다. 최근 일부 대학의 한국학 전공의 경우에는 재학생 수에 있어서 이미 중국학이나 일본학을 넘어서고 있을 정도로 양적인 발전을 이루고 있다. 최근의 상황을 볼 때 연구자 는 해외 한국학 전공 발전을 위한 내실을 다져야 할 시기가 되었다고 보고 있다. 그것은 앞으로 해외 대학에서 운영하고 있는 한국학 전공의 질적인 발전이 뒷받침되지 않는 한 해외 한국학의 미래는 장담할 수 없다고 보기 때문이다. 현재 한국학 전공이 설립된 지 10년 전후인 대부분의 대학에서는 한국학의 질적인 성장을 위한 제반 여건을 갖추지 못하고 있는 것이 현실이다. 특히 미래의 한국 전문가로 성장할 가능성이 많은 석사과정의 학생들에게 제공하고 있는 한국학 전공 강좌는 현재 매우 부족한 상황이다. 연구자가 현재 재직하고 있는 라트비아대학 한국학 전공의 석사과정도 크게 다르지 않다. 이러한 현실적 인 상황에서 연구자는 석사생들의 한국어 실력을 향상시키고 한국에 대한 이해도를 높이 는 방안의 하나로 석사과정의 4학기 중 3학기 동안 제공되는 한국어 수업에서 ‘칼럼’을 수업과정에 적극적으로 활용하고, 그에 대한 평가를 알아보았다. 이를 위해 현재 2학기 동안 한국어 수업에 참가한 재학생과 3학기 동안 한국어 수업 과정을 마친 수료생을 대상 으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 설문조사의 결과를 통해서 학생들의 반응은 대체로 긍정적 이었음을 확인하였다. 아울러 연구자는 칼럼을 활용한 수업의 기대효과에 대해서도 몇 가지 제시하였다.
